Looking for some PA/MD area VFR freaks

I live in the Harrisburg area and I was looking to see if there are any folks who would like to go riding on the weekends.I'm kinda fond of "Chubby's" on 15 since I am originally from down south. If anybody wants to meet there or anything i'm up to it.

PA Riding

Well I just picked up my 2005 VFR 800 today. I used to ride quite a bit about 18 years ago. Just started doing it all over again. My son has a Ninja and I bought the VFR to go riding with him. I'm game for a cruise some weekend. Getting a little cold now, but I used to ride my V45 Magna down to about 40 degrees, but did that with a windscreen.

The VFR is an awesome bike. I just had a blast riding it around today. Still need to get the cobwebs out from not riding for 18 years but I'm game.

Do you guys ride in the cold? I'm from close to Hamburg, Pa. I could give you a great tour up my way sometime if you're interested. I could meet you off of I-78 somewhere closer to Harrisburg if need be. Great roads out this way! I just took a group of 4 others on a ride this past weekend, they loved it.

Drop a line if you're up for some Polar Bear action!

I have no problem riding in the cold. I used to ride my old V-45 Magna down to 32 degrees, but I also put a fairing on it when I did that. I've had my VFR out down to 40 so far without much of an issue. So I'm game. Send me a PM if you are interested. I'm always looking for new tarmac to carve up.

Just making sure, you did say "I used to"

I've got heated gear so I'm spoiled. I bought it three years ago, comes in handy to take the edge off and also satisfy those "I have to ride" cravings during the winter months.

Any other troopers out there?

Hey PARed, I shot a quick video last weekend of some local backroads. It was not the best day for sport riding due to cold tires and overcast weather but I wanted to test this new microphone. I need to work on the placement, it picks up a lot of wind noise.

Anyway, here a real small teaser of the local roads out this way. The only thing is the turns don't appear nearly as tight as they really are. Must be the lens? I'm no expert on video but it's fun to mess with.

The Video looks pretty darn good. Yes the noise from the wind isn't good, but you might be able to get rid of that by sticking the camera behind your windscreen on the VFR.

Those roads are nice as well. Yesterday was beautiful for riding so I hope you got out there. I rode about 150 miles yesterday all around the area till it was time to get back to have turkey. Went out there at 7:30am and it was a little cold at 40 and there was fog everwhere. Having a clear sheild and mirrors was kind of difficult and the road was wet so you had to be careful in the turns. I went from Douglassville all the way over to Easton and back to where I live in Skippack. Hit a lot of roads that look like the one you were riding. All back roads, I think I passed about 15 cars in the 3 hours. Great day.

I was thinking about going out there this morning but I do have a 7 hour drive in front of me to New Hampshire today. My son plays junior hockey and we are going up for a showcase he has up there. Plus I think it is about 25 out there, maybe just a little bit to frosty. I rode the other night and it was 30, didn't bother me to much. I was layered up and I also bought a new set of winter riding gloves, man did that make a big difference.

I'm game for some riding some weekend soon. Let me know.

Harrisburg is a bit of a pull for me. Do you ride anyware south? I'm in the Baltimore/Annapolis area, but my son live up I83 in Parkton, just south of the PA border. My wife and I went out for a couple of hours yesterday before it turned snotty and boy what a nice ride. In the 70s and the leaves looked great.

I had the bike out Tues. It was great to ride to work instead of commuting... when backroads 2/3 of the way, sprinted to lunch 77deg in Fairfax, VA and back home before the temp dipped below 50deg. I felt like it was the first day in a long time when I got to ride vice have to go on the highway.

I'm fine on riding when the weather permits, just hate cold & wet. one or the other is bad, but both at the same time are no longer fun to do if I can avoid it.

I'd be happy to ride up through Annapolis to PA if we got going early enough to get back before dark/colder/animals.

commuting and working in Kennett Square puts me within striking distance.
provided, of course, the bridge isn't too windy.

if the weather's good for December 2, maybe Ephrata?

I'm another VFR owner in PA but I'm out near Pittsburgh. Not to pull anyone away from this board but here is a link to one based out around the Bedford PA area. Only rode a couple track days with a few of these guys but they are always looking for riders and riding out in the central part of the state and WVA, MD, and such.

Thanks for the link! I bought the domain www.pamotorcycletours.com a few weeks ago. I plan to use it to post routes, roads and other info for PA riders as well as out of state riders look to visit PA.

It's a shame we all decided to start talking about riding when the opportunities are reducing by the week due to weather concerns, etc. Not everyone enjoys or is prepared to ride in the colder temps.

Shame on us!

Well the 2nd would be tough for me since I have some plans that weekend I would need to change. I'm better the weekend of the 8th and 9th. I'm fine with traveling down to Ephrata, I was nearly down there on Thanksgiving morning. Got as far as Douglassville from Skippack where live.

I rode Saturday down to 28 degrees and yesterday I went over to Montgomery Cycle Center on there Polar Bear day and bought some Tour Master heated gear. Road today with the heated gear for the first time and it is heaven. I only got the jacket and gloves, but just those alone made a big difference in the entire body keeping warm.

I'm game to ride almost anytime this coming weekend. I have a 2 to 4 thing family thing to do on Sunday, but Saturday I'm going to ride somewhere for sure and I'm good on Sunday up to 2pm. If necessary I'll meet my wife where we need to go.

Welcome to luxury my friend! Only thing is my Gerbings gloves don't really do anything for me. I think I need to have them looked at, I've had them for at least 3 seasons now.

I was supposed to do a KLR thing on Saturday but it looks like no one else is in. I need to get out and make sure my suspension is alright. I changed the fork fluid and seals this past weekend. Not sure how the cold effects the seals "sealing". I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I wouldn't mind meeting you somewhere. Looks like a high of 41 up my way. It's been really windy here so far this week. I don't mind bad conditions but wind is probably my least favorite.

Two4One,

Ok, Saturday just got taken by a funeral. My sister's father-in-law passed away and we'll be doing that on Saturday now. However, I really want to ride this weekend and Sunday morning just sounds perfect. We could meet somewhere out in Berks county maybe half way between our homes around 9am and cruise around for 3 to 4 hours. I was riding all around there last weekend. I rode in Barto, Pikeville, Seisholtzville, Rockland and several other little towns give me a place and an address and I'll get there with my Navi. I can then head up to that family thing at 2pm, I'll just be a little late. Sunday is looking good weather wise, looks like 40 for a low and 40 for a high, which is a little weird, but any case will that work?
