My gang of buddies will be making our 4th annual trip to Deal's Gap in April. This being our 4th visit, we've been on most if not all of the local favorites. 129, Cherohala, 28, Blood Mountain via Suches, GA, etc. I guess I'm kinda, sorta' in charge of routes so I figured I would check with the Southern board members for some gems that I may not be aware of.
If you have any recommendations on a particular road whether it be scenic, sporty or otherwise, please let me know. We will be on sportbikes with no dual-sport capability (some day). I love looking at maps but sometimes you have to ask the locals for hidden gems.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Todd

Richard Russell hwy(ga.348) between 180 and alt 75 is a no brainer and ga.75 between Helen and Hiwasse is similar to blood mountain only tighter.
I live in my own little world, but it's OK, they know me here.

Like rc24rc51 said Russell Hwy is nice but a word of caution be on the lookout for gravel. It's still a little cold up there and they haven't quite gotten rid of all the gravel yet. 348 is more of a scenic type of road for taking in all the gorgeous sights. That's real popular with the cruiser crowd. I like going there when I don't feel like hauling a$$.
In my opinion, the best road in georgia for a sporting type ride as in knee dragging is route GA-11/US-129/US-19. I've got a google linky here for your reference:
from: GA-9/US-19 to: 34.735317,-83.918284 - Google Maps
From that google link above point A is at a gas station, pretty convenient and point B is the end of the fun route, which ends at some hiker shop. You can get some refreshments there and talk with other squids there. I know this is only 7.8 miles but I got to say I have so much fun there I go back and forth all the time. The best part about that route isn't just the wild curves but the fact most of the road is 3 lanes so you can take advantage of going from one lane to the next. Of course, only do this when there aren't any cars/bikes in the other lane!
I don't know if you've heard of Helen but that's kind of a cool disney world type town for grabbing some lunch. It's real close by the fun routes. You could just ride down Russell Hwy (348) and there will be signs pointing to Helen. Once you get to Helen you can't miss it, there's a german theme everywhere, even some horse buggies.
Hope that helps and enjoy the trip!
Joey, are you serious? I go to 348 to HAUL ASS! The other route you're refferring to is that not the road to Blood Mountain or am i mistaken?
I live in my own little world, but it's OK, they know me here.
well while your in or around deals gap check out devil's triangle. it's not as crowded no police presence. i would def recommend you can google it since im a lazy bastard. it's not as tight as the "dragon" but i would say it's as much fun. i live about 20 minutes from the gap and 45 minutes from the triangle. both very fun roads. you may check out hwy 68 if you come from the skyway and hit 68 turn left to hit the fun part or right to go back toward I75.

Check out this youtube video: YouTube - R6 Blood Mountain ( us 129 ) Does that look familiar?
That's the route I'm talking about. So you go on 348 to haulWell if you're looking for a nice harley I know where to get 'em.

I'd recommend anything around highway 421, in NC, and highway 66 or 8... depending on how you are coming. ***parts of these roads are NOT for cruiser bikes*** you could kill yourself especially on Hwy 8.
When are you going, I too have a group of guys headed to TotD in mid April.. around the weekend of the 17th.?
Thanks for all the info guys. Actually I already had Devil's Triangle routed based on a tailofthedragon.com article. We always do Blood Mountain via Suches also. It's one of my favorites. Then we hit 28 north heading back towards Robbinsville, NC.
We will be there riding the 14th through the 17th.

i didnt think u ever had been on the draggon matt but youn will when we all gettoghter and go its going to be a blast
proud member 4th gen dragon bikers ride militia

ive never been on the dragon but ga 129 is just 5mins from the house![]()

Yup that's right, from turner's corner cafe to the hiker shop. I go back and forth between those points all the time when I'm there. Yes, there are plenty other more curvy roads but you just can't beat the 3 lanes, super tight twisties, not to mention lenient policing in that area.![]()
Ok here's what I've got:
Devil's Triangle
Local Dragon Loop
GA Route
Bryson City
Anyone see any red flags?
215 which crosses the BRP in NC is a little known gem
68 from Tellico Plains to Blue Ridge, GA is a blast
Great roads around Lake Burton(Bridge Creek Rd, Seed Lake Rd, 197 and Old 441)
Warwoman
52 in GA
Pisgah Mtn Rd, NC
315 in TN
That'll have to do for now.
