San Diego Palomar Mtn Ride.

Well, today was supposed to be a mtn bike ride, but my friends changed their mind because it was supposed to get so friggin' hot today. This was a last minute trip decision, so I am sorry if some SD folks were wanting to go. I was on the road by 7:30am.

I started out changing my route again along the way, and I hit Pala Rd, and headed towards San Diego County's famed Palomar Mtn. I went up the South Grade (locals call it the tightside), went to the Observatory up top, headed back and stopped at Mama's Kitchen, and I ran into another 5th gen owner. He said he is a member on here, but doesn't post much. So, if you read this Todd, post on up! I then went down the East Grade (called the fastside) past pretty Lake Henshaw, over to Mesa Grande, and over to Santa Ysabel, down the 67, to Old Julian road, thru Ramona....(where it got to 104 DEGREES!!!!!) over to Highland Valley Rd, hit the 15 freeway, and headed home. It was around 180ish miles in all. I will tell you, it was a great ride, but I was SO happy to get home, as it was starting to bake. That 104 degrees was at 10:45am! I got back home and it was around 82-83 degrees nears the coast....so nice. Still getting warmer though.

I will let the pictures talk for themselves....with some comments of course!

Starting on Pala Rd (just east of 15 freeway)

Fillin' the old girl up.

Hard to see what the hell I am taking a picture of, but that is Pala Casino. One our our 13+ Indian Casinos in San Diego County. Welcome to San Vegas baby!

Citrus Orchard

Some migrant field worker...he looked like a foolio in his power ranger getup! I think he was stealing oranges....

Palomar mtn....was nice....only a few clowns on it when I got there.

That freak boy orange picker was following me around...I think he is a stalker. Nice tough man pose! Get lost poseur!

Nice hole that I parked my rear tire in. Near the top of Palomar.

I made it!

Palomar Observatory in the background.

Kinda neat looking...has a purty large lens!

The freak is back! What a nice pose once again!

Mother's Kitchen (mama's kitchen I call it) at the top of Palomar. The other VFRW member is on the far left taking off. He was scared of me!

Here is "Todd," with his '98 5th gen. He takes nice care of it....VERY clean! He gave me some nice cleaning tips as well!

Some of the burned area from last fall. Used to be a thick forest.

Lake Henshaw going down the East Grade towards the bottom of the mtn.

Very nice, that orange worker must have some fast legs!!!

Speaking of HOT, last time I visited california I remember going to Taco Bell for an early lunch and when I was done and stepped out I was almost knocked senseless from the heat hitting me like I don't blame the mtn bikers wanting to take a break that day.

What 'stuka doesn't want you guys to know is that he can't actually ride. He loaded the bike on the back of his truck to take those pictures.

The ultimate poseur.

I need to get back on two wheels fast, then we can climb Broke Bike Mountain.

Yeah, we have some nice scenery down here, before they turn all the land into Indian Casinos that is! I am anxious to see your scenery up in OR. You and JB are gonna try and meet up for dinner/drinks, right? That would be cool. I am thinking the second friday I am up.

Nice pics stuke, glad someone got out this weekend because my VFR was down for maintenance so I got out on the Mountain Bike this weekend for about 15 miles, both me and the dogs are worn out because I usually save all my Mountain Biking for the winter. I live about 2 miles from the best trails in WA.

I know what you mean about the heat. The central valley sucked this weekend. I couldn't wait to ride back up into the hills. OH NO, I've become a heat weenie!!!

Nice,

How was the squid count riding up on the weekend ?

I prefer to go up the mtn., & around that area during the week, so I don't have to stop & see the squids on there GSXRs brake late & mis the turn & I have to call 911

Looks like you had a good day though, but I'm starting to go with Viff's theory about the truck

Especially for being on top of the Mtn. with unscraped spotless knee pucks
