San Diego Ride 7-26-08 8:00am

Hey SDCAR members (or anybody else),

This is a last minute ride posting. I was gonna hit up the east county (Campo Rd, Laguna Mtn, Cuyamaca) tomorrow morning.

Anybody up for it? Sorry about the last minuteness.

If so, meeting point is the shell station off of the 52 freeway and convoy at 8:00am.

Well, I came, I went, and I had a great time! All by my lonesome as well! Well, I wasn't all alone....

I was riding East County San Diego this time. I rode all over east county starting on Campo rd on this ride. It was a lot of fun. I took the 8 freeway west back home after I came out of the Cuyamaca Mtns.

Side note: On the way up Mt Laguna on the Sunrise Hwy, I had a hardcore Harley dude trying to keep up. Man, he was probably the fastest dude on a Harley that I have come across....the SOB had to be draggin' parts, he HAD to be! If I pushed it a little, I was pulling away, but if I slacked off a little, man, that SOB was gaining on me. He did passes that I have never seen a Harley dude do before. I wonder if he has engine work, and suspension work done? Hmmmmm.... It looks like he lives up there, so he knows every corner like the back of his hand though. I am glad I held him off, as I would not be able to show my face if a HOG like his passed me.

Took some pics to share....if you look VERY hard, you might be able to find my bike in a picture or two...maybe....

Old mill

Background scenery

Railroad Bridge

Ok, this is where the fun starts. I did a little exploring, and saw how close I could get to some wind turbines.....I had to do a little bit of gravel road and sand riding, but I got there. This is all on an Indian reservation....I'm surprised they didn't arrest me for terrorism since I was taking pictures....oh yeah, this is not the federal government!

Let me tell you something.....these F'ers are BIG! It is freaky when you stand right undernearth the blades as they rotate....like it is gonna slice you in half!

Look at my baby at the bottom....this shows you a perspective on how big they are.

On the road back. I know, I took a million pics.

Sunanda Lodge (on the reservation still)

Onto old US80

My house.....I am still remodeling...

My guest house.

Our US border patrol doing their job. Border check point.

Up in the Laguna Mtns....

You can see the desert down below.

Whoa those fans are freakin' huge!!!

Where are the fans anyway?

By the way did you nearly run over any hot ladies and ask them who they're voting for?

Joseph....I am glad you asked young grasshopper!

They are about 60 miles east of San Diego in our local mtns. The Campo Band of Kumeyaay Indians are the ones who made the deal to have them built on their land. They made a 20 year deal with Superior Renewable Energy of Houston for 25 wind turbines. The towers are 218 feet tall, with 140 blades. Enough energy will be generated (50 Megawatts) to power 50,000 homes.

This is nothing compared to the 4000+ wind mills near Palm Springs, but you cannot get this close to them without a tour usually, or without attracting security.

Yes, as a matter of a fact, this hot 20 something tribal girl was squatting in the middle of the road, and I had a chance to ask her about the Iraq situation, and world domination. (Inside Joke to others)

Looks awesome, but, I wasn't in any shape to have ridden anywhere this morning anyway.

Hahaha....I know. He actually passed me, because I slowed down from around 90 to about 55 once I hit the 40 MPH zone with residences....I saw him coming after I slowed down....and of course, he blew past me in this zone. I think it made him happy.

GREAT pictures, thanks. sounds like it was a great ride. it sure was a nice weekend.

I would put up pictures of my weekend, but pictures of an empty room with paint drying is not nearly as much fun as yours. LOL.

thanks again
Bob
