Road ? N.Ca.

Was looking around Google maps and see what looks to be one H of a road that leaves off 36 at Mad river wraps around Ruth reservoir heading down to Zenia, heading south on Zenia lake - Mina Rd all the way to 101. Whats the deal with this road? is it worth the trouble ? 1 lane, pot holes? whats the story? Sure does look like a great route. Any info and photos would be great, Thanks

If you're interested in that part of the country, the book "Destination Highways" Northern CA is a must. It has a detailed, blow by blow, description of this road. It is classified as DH #36 "Mad River Loop". Highway 36 from Carlotta to Triangle Jct is DH #6. There are editions of Destination Highways for BC, Washington State and Northern CA. There is a book in the works for Southern CA, might even be out by now. They are written by motorcyclists and contain tons of information. Lodging, Fuel, Motorcycle Shops, Groceries, Pubs etc. Videos of many of the rides are on their website. I know this sounds like a commercial, but I have used these books for about three years now and never travel without one. They are around $70 but worth every bit of it.

This area of California is also detailed quite heavily on THIS website for Pashnit California Roads. He has maps and ride reports as well as TONS of pictures of the route. One of the tours they lead actually pass through this loop. Now don't think that the word "tour" means slow and easy. I was on the Nor cal tour and people were tearing it up out there everyday. The roads portion of the site is a pay site ($20 a year) but it's well worth it!
