March 30 ride with So-Cal guys

Since Reg has been a little lacking in the writeups dept. lately, i thought id share today's outing with the rest of you, and continue the teasing for the "still frozen" states.

I was invited by some of the riders from the VFR mailing list to join them in their saturday ride. All were from southern Cali, and were headed up my way. The plan was to meet up around 11:30 at HWY166 & Tepesquet Rd.

I got there a few minutes early, and ended riding Tepesquet rd. for about 5 miles before turning around to meet at the arranged intersection. WOW ! Thats a nice road. Very similar to Hwy229 that Reg recently wrote about. We will be hitting this route up soon. But that will be another write-up.

At anyrate, the group was running about 1 1/2 behind. I waited for 30 mins, before continuing on without them to the next meeting point.

I waited there for another 30 mins or so, then continued on Hwy154 toward Lake Cachuma

At this point i finally got in contact with "John in LA" from the mailing list, and we met back in Los Olivos at the market/deli on Hwy154

Thats Johns bike there with the Yellow wheels, and Jeff is the guy standing next to his 140,000 mile SuperHawk ! By the looks of this guy, and seeing him ride today, id guess he could ride the box it came in !
After filling our belly's we waddled out to the bikes and down 154 into Santa Barbara, then peeling off on 192 that skirts the hills of SB. Nice ride thru some nice neighborhoods. Was neat to see some new territory. I stuck with them until Carpenteria, then waved them on and headed toward the 101 for a quick bit then took the 154 toward home. Riding by myself, and with no curfew, i started sightseeing, took some random road off to the west from 154 and got some great views of SB and the coast. Plus some really beautiful scenery.

There was this strange thing on the hillside,..... not sure what it is, maybe a water tank for use in wild fires.

Anyway,...it made a nice pisser, and offered a nice vantage point for a pic.
That roaded eventually took me to the the Winchester gun/shooting range, then turned to gravel.
Not far away once back on 154 i decided to see if i could find the Coldsprings tavern,.....

If you can find this bridge, your not far....

I hung out here for a bit, watched the girlies and quenched my thirst,....then headed home.
263 miles in total, and what a beautiful day !

Thanks to "John in LA" for the invite, and for showing me some new roads.

Tori, yes that is a water tank. At least that's what they told me when I lived down in SB. All the Harley guys used to head out to Cold Springs Tavern when I was down there. Maybe we'll get a group together and head down there sometime. That's quite a run for you. You usually start belly achin after 100 miles or so with me...

I know, dont know what got into me..... i think it was the MP3 player, the tunes kept my mind off my achin'ass.

Plus, i've been practicing my riding technique, and maybe the "moving my ass off the seat" once-in-awhile gives it a rest.

You're welcome Tori.

That is a water tank, but kind of like a cistern. It collects water in the top.
That road is Camino Cielo, Spanish for Road in the sky or Sky Road. We used to sneak out our dad's old war souvenir guns and take them to the Winchester shooting range when we were teenagers!
Jeff's Super Hawk would be a lot of fun on the track. Probably get a lot of use out of it. Jeff takes very good care of his rides.

I thought that looked familiar. there is a trail near there that I used to jog if I remember correctly.
