HEADLIGHT

I have a 2006 and was wondering has anybody had to
changed one of the light bulbs in the headlight. I was
able to get my hand in where the back of the headlight
is but can't seem to turn or twist it to remove and replace
the light bulb. Would appreciate any help.

RE: HEADLIGHT

You don't want to know what it is going to take. I had to take all the
plastic off the bike because the connector would not come off the three
prong tabs of the light. I have the front fairing off right now. It should
be easy to slide the wire connector off the back of the bulb, but good luck
with that. It didn't take as much work to lower my bike as it is to replace
one $#%*ing light bulb.

First don't try to twist it Tom it just pulls straight back off thebulb.
I use spring metal strip of steel that I made up a long time ago. It
has an L shaped end that I work under the connector to help pry it up
as I pull it back with the other hand.

I originally made this tool to help unseat spark plug boots down in
the deep plug well's of some cars.

Re: HEADLIGHT

no twist or turn. push your index finger and thumb into the rubber collar
which is around the connector. feel at the 3 0'clock and 9 0'clock positions
toward the front of the connector and press in. the connector will pull off
very easily. i just did two low beam bulbs saturday morning on a 2006, took
less than 1/2 hour taking our time.
i've got a pdf showing the procedure for a st1100 but it's the same
connector. helped me a lot anybody want a copy?

RE: HEADLIGHT

The connectors were almost stuck on. I know they slide strait back, I took
the front faring off for the lower project, but between then and now it
looks like may be some minor corrosion may have caused some sticking. (BTW
the manual says you have to strip the bike down to change the bulb, but you
are right, if you can get the connector off and you don't mind scraping your
knuckles, you can do this without much effort.) I did the lowers as well,
only one was burnt out but I broke the tab on the other one trying to get
the connector off. Now here is a fun one for the list. I started cranking
on the aim screw before I realized what I was doing. Does anyone know the
proper way to aim the lights? Do you nose it to a wall and measure up from
the ground for vertical? What about horizontal? Thanks.
