Look at new flip face helmets

I'm looking into the newest flip face helmets, since I'm in the
market to replace my 2001 model hjc symax.
It's finally getting tired enough to howl from wind noise at about 45 mph.

So, I'm looking at the newer flip from hjc the CL-max vs the Shoei Multi-tec.
I know that they are from two different price points, but is the new
Multi-tec that much quieter than others?

inquiring minds want to know.

FYI, as one who has worn both, the CL-Max flip-up is noisier than the
Sy-Max. The Sy-Max is still around, still their "luxury" modular, and still
heavier than the CL-Max.

How do the Nolans, Scorpian and Schuberts stack up?

Not too well. They're round on top and kind of slippery, unless they're
still in the box.

Oh, you want to know how they *compare*?

Nevermind...

Re: Look at new flip face helmets

perhaps totally unrelated to the subject, but I finally replaced my
helmet. I tried on a Schuberth S1 at a shop and fell in love with the
helmet.
It was so quiet! I found I'm driving faster because I don't hear the road
as much It fits me well, has this neck thing that goes all the way
around, that touches your neck, so you don't get any wind from underneath
the helmet. It has a sun visor that I use a lot.. whenever I turn facing
the sun, I just flip it down. very handy!

the only thing is, after I installed my Scala Rider (bt speaker+mike), the
speakers of course make a bump on the inside of the helmet and whenever I
put the helmet on, my ears fold over :) so I reach in and unfold my ears.
I feel like dumbo saying this.. Tomorrow I'll try to find a way to better
place the speakers :)

Re[2]: Look at new flip face helmets

I've got the new Schuberth flip-face helmet and still like it. However
I don't like it as much in some ways as the old Schuberth I had. The
interior seems a bit more Spartan although it is still comfortable.
The ventilation is super except the front inlet just seems to go up
past the face shield and doesn't do much else. They are quiet, and
also heavy.

I hope the S1 is easier to install a speaker in than the C1. To put it
mildly, it sucks bigtime. I installed an autocom headset in mine and I
had to basically take the helmet apart to get the speakers into the
helmet. The indentation in the styrofoam isn't deep enough for the
speakers to fit, so I had to open it up which required taking loose
the interior cloth which is glued to the styrofoam and once taken off
will not stick back on. A stupid, stupid setup. I couldn't believe how
difficult they made the whole process.

I considered the Shoei when I bought the Schuberth, but have really
gotten used to the flip down sun shield, a boon for prescription
eyeglass wearers.

RE: Look at new flip face helmets - comments on Nolan

So Nolan hasn't changed that much. I have had the N100 for over four years
and wind noise is my top complaint, love everything else about it. Good ear
plugs are very necessary. I whish someone with do a dB comparison of all
the flip face brands out there.

I have a Nolan N102, purchased early in the summer. I'd give it a mixed
review.

Likes:
- Flip-face utility. Quick drink or snack w/o removing helmet.
- Flip-up sun shield. Doesn't replace sunglasses, but nice to have.
- Good ventilation
- Ratcheting buckle on chin strap. Quick, and easy with gloves.
- Easy to install helmet speakers (I have a Chatterbox, not the Nolan
stuff).
- Comes with anti-fog shield (haven't tried it, but heard it works well)

Dislikes:
- No D-rings, so strap can't go on helmet lock (I use a cable with loops
on the end, through the chin bar).
- WIND NOISE.
- WIND NOISE.
- Did I mention WIND NOISE???

As you can guess at the above, the wind noise in this helmet really
bothers me. It is really loud -- and YES, I wear good earplugs every
time I ride. Still way too loud for me. Part of it is that I'm
replacing a Shoei RF800, one of the quietest helmets available, and I
have sensitive hearing.

I know some extra noise may be a "feature" of flip-face helmets in
general, but I'm at the point where I'm about to give up on the Nolan
for longer rides. In fact, on a two-day ride this past weekend, I took
the old Shoei.

I'd be curious to hear if anyone can directly compare the wind noise of
the Schuberth or Synchrotech to the Nolan. I really didn't want to spend
the extra cash, but if they are that much quieter, it would probably be
worth it to me. Otherwise, I'll go back to the Shoei RF.

Overall, I'd have a really hard time recommending the Nolan.

All I can find is they are based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
