RE: clip master link

FWIW guys,

I just press on the master link with a press on tool. Rather than put on a clip, I peen the rivets to spec with a hammer and a punch rather than the rivet tool. This way is pretty fast and after about one or two times takes me about two minutes to get the master link on and rivets expanded.

The rivet tool is pretty easy to use also. Plus, I bet you can always find a lister willing to ship one to you to use for the chain maintenance. Much easier on the pocket than buying one.

I have no opinion on the clip-types, other than I think rivets are safe-er...once applied in the correct manner there's virtually no chance the master link will come apart.

To each his own.

However, I know of many riders who have used this type of chain without problem when the connecting link's open end is facing in the opposite direction of forward travel when installed. Comments please.

I have only used the clip-on links for the past 20+ years. The line about "clip links might fail" seems BS to me, as I've never had it happen to me, even on the 160hp zx-10+ I'm running.

Just remember "closed end points toward chain rotation" and you'll be fine, esp. on a vfr.
