Re: Integrated Mirrors update

Fred and Vifferati alumni,

Mirror update:

I spent yesterday trying to iron the bugs out of the new LED mirrors, the wiring went well on install but I had only a short ride to check the functioning. of them before dark and could not give a complete report.

1. The mirrors will not maintain adjustment, having vibrated to their lower most point of adjustment after about thirty minutes of spirited riding.

2. Due to the design of the hollow shaft they have a harmonic vibration at different RPM's that render them all but useless.

I am willing to sacrifice my Y2K mirrors to a Dremel tool in order to experiment with these lesser quality aftermarket models, I am hoping to remove the LED's from the new models and modify my older ( but more stable ) Y2K mirrors.

I will keep he list updated with any progress I make and will attempt to document the procedure. Wish me luck.

BTW I noticed that seven years ago today I installed my Y2K mirrors on my 98 after myself and Talon displayed his VFR Tailockers at the Dallas Cycle show. We measured the new mirrors and talked the Honda rep into letting us swap them onto our display bike ( my 98 ).

We were first in the U.S.A. ( check the archives ) to get them ordered and installed, I believe Lorne Black beat us in Canada however. Our display booth was set up next to the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders for four days :-) What a hoot that was !

James,

Do you know if these are the same identical length as the Y2K Honda
mirrors? I have Y2Ks on my '98 now, but would like to get the mirrors
out just a tad further and I like the idea of the turn signals in the
mirror housings. So if these happened to be a tad longer I would go for
them. Assuming that your vibration testing goes successfully. It would
be kinda pointless to have snazzy mirrors that you can't see behind you
with.

Any chance you could simply replace the mirror assembly at the top of the stalk and save the effort? Maybe find a toast one on Ebay to test out before you trash a good one?

Re: Re: Integrated Mirrors update

Might be one could swap to the mirrors from the updated CBR1000RR. I've only
seen pic's at this point, but they definitely have integrated signals and the
base looks to be pretty similar to that of our favorite Y2K's. Given the
CBR's roughly 50% horsepower advantage over a Viffer, you'd have to think these
mirrors would be stable at VRF warp. Probably not o cheap swap, but a quick
bolt-on installation would help offset some cost via time saved.
