Brake bleeding
I bled the fluid on my 99 VFR. I used a vacuum brake bleeder. Everything went fine except for the center bleeder on the back caliper, as very little fluid came out. I consulted the service manual. As other posters have commented, it appears that the grammer is not correct in a number of places, the manula says "feed fluid" but I think they mean bleed fluid. I also believe the brake line I had trouble with (center bleed, rear caliper) goes to the remote master cylinder, mounted on the top of the left front brake caliper. The manual also mentions removing the left front caliper and tipping it while bleeding the line (I assumed this was an air bubble thing).
Questions: Has anyone else had problems with not being able to bleed the center on the rear caliper? Is there some magic to removing and tipping the left front caliper? Is there a checkball in there that needs to be displaced to allow the bleed? How much travel is normal in the remote front master cylinder on the left front caliper, mine is about 3/8"? _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |

It's a master cylinder, just like the one at your handlebar. There's a piston in there that is activated by the application of the front brakes. There's a pivot on that master cylinder that allows it to rotate (which pushes fluid through the system with the remote MC piston) when the drag of the brakes acts on the caliper. Unfortunately I don't know what the generally-accepted method for bleeding that portion of the system is. > > How much travel is normal in the remote front master cylinder on > the left front caliper, mine is about 3/8"? I don't own a 5G VFR, but that sounds about the same as what I recall other 5G owners saying. later, Johnj _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |
