RE: Pegaso carbs/ NVFRC

In response to the following...
> What purpose do two carbs serve on a thumper?> One for each intake doesn't seem to make much sense> but I can't picture any other combination.

My old '84 XL 600 has by outward appearances a twin carb setup that was
Honda 's response to several pboblems with fueling a large single..
The first carb is relatively small, which provides smooth throttle
response @ low speeds, without the spitting and sputtering
from a single large carb.(It also enables outstanding MPG)
At higher RPM's the 2nd carb kicks in, (much as Detroit iron V-8's
used to have the secondary throats kick in on 4 barrel carbs )
and the bike is able to reach much higher speed/ RPM as it's fed
more fuel from the secondary carb...
I think the system was most likley used to meet emission
standards & maybe make it more fuel efficient.
I believe I once got almost 60 mpg riding it to work,( on the XL )
driving cautiously.. but what fun is that ?...
my $.02.... joebiker996 (back to lurk mode)
