Mail order recommendations for oil, filter and washer?

Hi,

My '94 is in need of an oil change, and I'm tired of going to the dealership
with their inflated prices (and who I have no allegiance to since I bought
the bike used and have a mechanic).

Anyone have a good recommendation for mail order? Thought I'd stick with the
Honda synthetic blend, although a few years back I used the Mobil 1
motorcycle and that worked fine also. Not that I want to stir up a hornet's
nest with the dyno vs. synthetic debate. ;)

Thanks in advance,

John

Click on the Oil Filter Efficiency link, buy Mobil 1 or the Wal*Mart brand
filters, Honda filters suck. Use the Oil Filter Cross Reference link to get
the filter model for the bike. Use Mobil1 synthetic. You'll also need a
nylon or new crush washer for the drain plug.

RE: Mail order recommendations for oil, filter and washer?

John, many of us are using Shell Rotella T Full Synthetic in our VFRs. One of our own VFR listers (although the wuss has recently quit riding) was a research chemist at Shell and said that the formulation of the Rotella product was perfect for bikes and I totally trust his recommendation. Motorcycle Consumer News also rated it highly. What's nice about this is that you can get a gallon of it at WalMart for about $14. While you are there you can pick up the appropriate SuperTech filter for your bike for a couple of dollars as well. My 99 uses the ST6607 as do all of the 5th and 6th Gens. I'm not sure about yours however. It is a very well made filter. I have a spare "crush" washer but I have torqued the oil drain plug to spec numerous times and do not see any indication that this is actually a crush washer. Therefore I have been reusing the original one with no leaks or problems. Not a bad idea to have a spare but don't waste your money changing
it each time. Inspect and reuse has worked for me. Hope this helps.

Vic

John, I've no idea where you can mail order oil or a filter. While
this doesn't answer either of your questions, I figure it's no
different in that regards than the other replies you've gotten so
far, and we're a friendly bunch here; so I figured I'd just say hi,
and compliment you on having the best model VFR.

Hopefully someone will be able to answer your questions at some point.

later,
Johnj
