The VTEC 15/ 16K service...

Interesting one todayPhoned for an appointment 3 weeks ago, told the service rep that this was the 'big one' so that he could look for a suitable space on their calendar. Was given a date about 10 days out, on a Tuesday.
Took the bike in on the Saturday before. Got the call to pick it up on the following Friday, went in Saturday to pick it up again.
Recall work done, new tires paid for by friend were done. Service was not.

Fair enough, we can all make mistakes. The service guy was apologetic, and said they'd get to it Tuesday.
Call in this AM (Thursday) and was told they'd just started working on it. Got a phone call 15 minutes later to say that the bike would only be ready next week: no plugs in stock, and no 'special valve tool' in the shop, so had to order from Honda....

This is a dealer that has been around for years, and isn't that small. And they've never serviced a VTEC before?

It sure sounds that way to me.

I think I would be looking for someone who is a little more knowledgeable and
organized.

Re: The VTEC 15/ 16K service...

I realize that the VTEC valve chek/adj is much more complicated, but for
my 4G bike, the place that does mine is great.
I give them plenty of notice, usually several weeks. I have the bike
waiting for them cold when they open and they have it ready before they
close that night

They are a clean and honest shop. I have been in the service area while
they are working on my bike, so I know the actual work is being performed.

Just a data point...

Paul in SoCal, bike is almost ready for its 171,000 valve check.

Re: The VTEC 15/ 16K service...

My shop said that it usually is unnecessary to do the valves, until it
presents itself to be a problem.

I took my bike for service the other day for 15KM check-up too. Runs so
much better afterwards,
and that slight vibration is gone.
