RE: Front Fork Seals / ATF /FrictionEnhancers???
Since you brought it up, maybe it would be better if you cited the data
that confirms that there are friction enhancers in ATF... What piece of data tells you that there aren't friction enhancers in ATF? -Chris _____ From: vfr-bounces (AT) cs (DOT) wisc.edu on behalf of Matt Fitzsimmons Sent: Thu 1/19/2006 11:22 AM To: vfr (AT) cs (DOT) wisc.edu Subject: Re: Front Fork Seals / ATF /FrictionEnhancers??? ATF has friction enhancers added to them to help enhance friction. Help me out here...... Why would friction enhancers be added to automatic transmission fluid? Inquiring minds want to know? Don't worry, there aren't any. ATF is hydraulic fliud, and it does have addatives; anti corrosion, anti foam, as such, makes an excellent fork oil. What you do need to careful of is the compatibility with the seals. This is the same issue with using some ATFs in different transmissions. Use Mercon 5 in your Ford, not "Rapid Lude all purpose" (wonder how I know?) They guys I know with dirt bikes always use ATF. The only real difference is the viscocity label on fork oil, and the size of the package. Dirt bikes sometimes need a lot of fork oil. Turns out, the oil (or the seals for that matter) never seem to stay in the fork long enough to find out if they're compatible. _______________________________________________ Vfr mailing list Vfr (AT) cs (DOT) wisc.edu For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |
