VFR Mirrors - quick question (I hope)

I have:

'97 VFR + new Y2K mirrors.

Y2K base gasket.

Y2K allen head bolts.

Do I use:

Stock '97 base plate (painted) or no base plate?

That part it only there for the condom to anchor to.

Thank you, I just removed the condom metal pieces and the Y2K mirrors look
so much better. I feel like an idiot for not knowing this. Thanks Chris!!
