Experience With Huggers?

I recently picked up a carbon hugger/chainguard for my 4th gen ('97). I
have no idea what brand it is. It's of high quality construction, but looks
like it might have been a prototype. I'm going through the process of
modifying/fabricating a bracket and it just hit me that the chain guard
portion really only covers one side of the chain - the outside.

Could I get some feedback from those of you that have huggers (Harris, NWS,
Pyramid or whatever) about whether those designs incorporate some covering
on the inside of the chain, and if so how extensive? I've checked out the
sites of those manufacturers and some models seem to have full coverage
toward the rear. If there are models installed out there that don't have
any inside protection, what has been the experience with goop on the tire?

Thanks,
Paul

RE: Experience With Huggers?

The one on my 5th gen works with the stock chain guard.
It covers the brake lines on top of the guard.
Can't remember the brand right now.

I have a C/F hugger like your description on my '96 VFR 840, + a
Scottoiler. Oil fling to the tire has never been a problem. There's
a bit of oil on the wheel, but that's because the oil is dispensed at
6:00 and it's free to fly to ~ 1:00 before the hugger intercepts.
There's also some oil/dirt build-up on the lip and the inside surface
of the hugger, but the tire is dry.

David "Routemeister" Thompson
