Insurance estimate results are in
Well, they want to total it.
Its a Cosmetic Total according to the guys at the shop. The frame, swingarm and all that is straight, but putting every little bit back to like new is more than the bike is worth. I got a copy of the estimate and its way too high. I went through the list tonight and just cut the part cost in half. I even added in some bits that I know are bent, yet they did not look at them yet (like the rear subframe). So tomorrow I'll start the rounds with the insurance and see what the buyout cost is. That and try to get and answer from them about the gear. RE: Insurance estimate results are in
Sorry to hear that John. Allow me to echo the others in saying I'm glad that
you are "OK" physically. If you are interested at some point in a 2003 (ABS, (factory Givi hard luggage, and several extras) with 13,000 miles, never crashed or in an accident of any kind and lovingly cared for, let me know, I'm selling her. I have a brand new 2007 in our collection now. Re: Insurance estimate results are in
John,
I question the wisdom in buying back your bike to put back together. There are plenty of 5th generation bikes out there that are cartwheel free. I totalled a 5th gen (green canadian model) back a few years ago. I was able to buy it back for parts. I paid about $800cdn for it as a buy back, but was able to get back a 99.5% good right side fairing for it, and a good (dent free) rear wheel, which I put on a 'new to me' 5th gen (I had to go 500+ miles to find a green one). I sold the totalled bike ( though it still had title) for $500, so for me, it was a good deal. The bike I found was about $1500 less than what the insurance paid me, and it came with full GIVI luggage, and a corbin seat - which I sold. Before the adjuster saw my bike, I was able to reclaim my sargent seat, and my hi-mount staintune, and replaced them with stock parts that I had in my garage. Your pics show that your bike has a broken front fender. I wouldn't be surprised if u find that the forks are tweaked a bit. RE: Insurance estimate results are in
I hope you're not trusting guys in a shop to tell you that the
frame and front end are straight. That really can't be properly done by eye. And I echo the sentiment of the other lister who noted the bent fender. Sure you can do the bicycle trick but not only is that NOT the proper way to do it it won't really tell you CONCLUSIVELY, if things are bent. You can also look back in the archives for a post from me on a front-end alignment procedure. That will help you see (perform the procedure and look for a fender centerline off center from the tire center) if things are bent but again it's no gurantee. Personally, I have no problems buying back a total for a low $$ value but I will ALWAYS calculate into the equation the cost of a computrac measurement and possible correction. Forgive me for being blunt but to assume it's straight on some shops say so is just plain stupid and a waste of your good time and money. First road trip with the 06
Actually my first motorcycle road trip of more than a day since I was a
teenager. I will do it again soon. Western CT to Stowe, VT; Stowe to Portland ME; Portland back to CT. 800 miles. Here are few pictures I took on RT302 in VT and RT112 in NH: Clicky The bike was flawless. It is nearly a perfect motorcycle. We got rain for about 4 hours this morning and I can report that for cheap rain gear the Nelson Rigg stuff works very well. The boot covers work good too. FirstGear Master summer rain gloves kept my hands dry but I was glad that the temps where in the low 60's because they are warm. Does anybody make a rain glove that breathes and is made for HOT weather? _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |
