"We" had an exciting ride in to work this morning...
It was raining REALLY hard when I woke up, but stopped raining just
before leaving, so I decided to ride in to work... I usually hang my riding jacket up in the house but didn't last night - left it in the garage, draped over the rail near my work bench. It wasn't raining, but still was wet and a bit chilly, so I closed all the vents and pockets on the front in case it did sprinkle... It is about a 15 minute ride to work. Not nearly long enough, most days! Almost there, coming up University Ave, up hill through some twisty parts, past the Johnson Art Museum, feel light pressure on my pants leg just below my jacket...kind of like water or a sudden breeze. Think, damn, didn't need to get wet, meetings today, dressed nicely. Should have put the riding pants on...finish the curve...look down to assess the damage... There is a mouse sitting on my leg...looking around...whiskers blowing in the 30+ mph breeze... I flash on Stewart Little. That thought of a cute little mouse didn't last long...microseconds in fact... Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for him) he was on my left side...I grabbed him and chucked him down into the oncoming lane -- hard! I think I also said something in my helmet -- WTF? It is entirely possible I also swerved during the snag and eject process... He was in the "backpack" pocket that runs across the back of my Tourmaster jacket like the hand warmer pocket on a hoodie. Must have crawled out just as we came up the hill. Checked for more when I parked and zipped the pocket closed. Going to war on the mice in the garage tonight... little fuckers.
