I've read many of your posts, and agree with you more often than not; but
I've got to take you to task on this one. Synching the starter valves on my 98
is literally a 15-minute job for even a novice mechanic, and that includes time
spent gathering the few necessary tools/gauges (nut driver, screwdriver,
wrench, tach, manometer). Checking the valves, on the other hand, is a certain 2+
hour PITA - and that's on a good day, assuming you've got the tools and
experience. Given that most of the wrenches on this list report finding their
valves well within spec at 16k, 32k, and even 48k miles, WTF would anyone in their
right mind do the valve check on a VFR any more often than the manual
suggests? If you're constantly beating the p*ss out of your VFR on the racetrack -
and also have alot of free time - what you suggest might make sense; but you'd
have to be a complete glutton for punishment otherwise to follow this advice.
