Higher handlebars

Hi all,

I am curious if anyone has installed higher handlebars on their 1986-1989 VFR750?!

I'm re-doing the seat to give me a bit more room (it is a bit cramped as I am 6'1") and I would like to raise the bars a bit to balance the new seating position!

Can anyone offer words of wisdom?

Thanks

Rob

I've been using Heli-Bars (

VFR and have been very satisfied with them. The installation
instructions look a lot scarier than the actual work. The brought the
bars up and back slightly which made it a lot more comfortable for me.
The real reason that I wanted them in the first place was because the
angle of the hand grips was killing my wrists. I wanted something a
little wider. It's been nine years and I would use them again in a
heartbeat.

Re: Higher handlebars

Nice try,* but Helibars for the 86-89 VFR have been out of production for many years.
I had a set for a while on my 86.
The clamp wasn't any higher, but the bar angle was higher and further back.
Not the greatest design, but ok.
I sold them to another lister when I installed the CBR600F2 front end.
I'm currently using a set of stock 94 VFR clip-ons.
I think you can still get adjustable Telefix clip-ons for the 37mm forks.
I've also seen kits that allow you to replace the clip-ons with a dirtbike style handlebar.
From what I understand this was the hot setup for racing some of the shorter tracks, as the extra leverage allowed the rider to throw the bike around a lot easier.

Echo on the Helis. Have on both VFRs and the K12
Also love the heated grips from Twisted Throttle and the throttle lock from
Throttle Meister. Wouldn't ride cross country with out the entire combo.

That may or may not matter:

They were out of production for my 91 also. I called and asked if they
planned another run. They said nothing was planned but asked for my contact
info. A month or two later, the called and said they would be doing
another run...I had mine a few weeks after that.

Steve:
You have posed a great question. I would also like my handle grips
about 2 inches higher on my 98 VFR 800FI. If you find any way to do
this....PLEASE share the solution to this problem with me. I have the
same problem you just described except I am not even 6 feet tall.

rear seat cowl

I picked up a 86 VFR about a month ago it hadn't been running for a couple of years.
After taking carbs off and going thru them(twice before I got it right)it is a sweet running
bike. Any ideas where I could get a rear seat cowl?

Re: Higher handlebars

I'd suggest you check out Convertibars.com. They're clip-ons are a bit more
work to install than Helibars in that you need to set the height and angle,
but that's also a benefit in that they're also much more configurable. I
actually used them to move the bars on my '98 down & away (I'm tall, and I like them
low; blame my years as a bicycle road racer for that atypical preference).
It took a while to get them set up to my liking, but they're EXACTLY where I
wanted them to be. Setting them up higher would likely be an easier task, and
it also looks like they've improved the design a bit since I got mine a couple
years ago. (Hint: you can cut the very long vertical risers off wherever
you'd like, but measure twice - or six times - and cut once...)

PS: it's my bike in the VFR installation photo, but you can also see them up
close at WDGAH in a couple weeks.

Re: Higher handlebars

Heres a link.
The fairing looks different to my 1987 VFR though.
I states to get more than 1" rise you will need the longer brake lines.
Anyone tried these?
