Help -- Fuel Pump Not Receiving Voltage -- driving me crazy!
I've been searching the boards and posting to VFRdiscussion.com trying
figure out why my fuel pump won’t work when the ignition is turned on… Here’s the background: I changed the battery on my pristine '99 back in April, took it for a quick ride, and parked it in my garage (on a float charger) until two weeks ago.* I know, too long w/out riding, but I’ve *never* had a starting issue in the past, and the bike’s done its share of sitting. Now, when I try to fire it up I get no whirring of the fuel pump when I turn the key (and ensure the kill switch is on).* All the electronics work and it turns over perfectly, but no fuel pump power... I've confirmed that there's no voltage to the fuel pump by testing w/ a volt meter, and checked the fuses (main and sub), the engine stop relay, the fuel relay, the bank angle sensor, the kill switch and the side stand switch (I bypassed it).* I also unplugged the ECM, removed my Power Commander (to eliminate one more possible point of failure), cleaned connections, applied dialectic grease and re-plugged.* Someone else suggested checking the connections to the ignition coils and all four seem to be seated properly. The only other things to try (per the manual) are: 1) Open or short circuit at the input power line of the ECM 2) Faulty ignition switch 3) Faulty ECM 4) Open circuit in the engine stop switch ground wire I think I can manage checking #2 now that I have all the bodywork off, but I'm probably going to be stumped on #1, #3 and #4... Any magic bullets I’m missing?* I’m going insane! Thanks! No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG.
