VFR750FJ; fitting a later engine.
Hi,
I've got a '88 UK spec VFR750FJ on a '89 Plate that I've owned for six years.Â* These motors are quite noisy (by VFR standards) and I run a Motad stainless system.Â* I'm not to concerned about the noise but nothing lasts forever.Â* I'm curious if a later (90-94ish) lump would go in (I reckon it would fit ok)? I would like to know if I would need to fit an entire loom and assosiated electronic components (Regulator/Rectifier etc) or will the motor would run fine on the early electrics?Â* I expect to have to replace the carbs with the later type, but then perhaps not? Any help would be apreciated. Regards Chris. _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |

Re: VFR750FJ; fitting a later engine.
The '90-'97 engines are nearly identical, but I have never heard that
the earlier engines were very similar in the sense of interchangeability. (RC30 cases are apparently related to RC24 cases, FYI.) Could still fit in an earlier chassis, but things like exhausts, air boxes and fuel tanks could scupper your plans at any point. The only sensible way to do an engine swap is to use the wiring loom and bits from the donor bike...but you could be an extraordinarily lucky person, so don't let me stop you!
