2003 Clutch Levers
Anyone recommend a good place to buy clutch lever set/brake lever set for a 2003 Honda VFR?
Also, anyone recommend a good place for fairings? My silver VFR got tipped over! I need a lower left fairing. Sorry that these are ugly pics. These are early shots taken right after I finished up. Sorry for the ugly electrical tape instead of the nice, clean tie-wraps it has now and the general filthy nature of the bike that day. I just got done installing it and I don't generally clean the bike BEFORE I work on it. As you can see, with the black plastic filler gone there is plenty of room ahead of the radiator. There is about 1-1/2 clearance to the fork at least where it comes closest to it during its swing. These are thumbnails. While I was at it I also ran an additional set to the top left side of the fairing for a future power outlet for a heated vest or whatnot. (Time not including pulling the bodywork off and putting back on which was the major PITA of this job). -Jim ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2006 10:48:53 -0500 From: firefly Subject: Re: advice on mounting Fiamm horns? There are some differences between the the stated '94 (through '97) to which the question originally applied, and your '98, but thanks for showing your handiwork. If you manage some clearer pictures at some point do send them up, or make a page about it somewhere. Include some brief descriptions about the camera angles so people know what they're looking at. Also be aware, and I can't say for certain whether this will affect you since I don't recall how the '98 plastic looks exactly, that very often what appears to be "filler" or cosmetic pieces are actually spoilers and are important for directing airflow to places that need it and/or directing airflow and spray away from areas that would be problematic. -Brad ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 12:24:30 -0400 From: "Brad Berson" Subject: RE: advice on mounting Fiamm horns? ('94) To: Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" >Hogwash. As a follow-up to my last reply, it should be noted that on a '94-'97 the area you used to install your horn is occupied by a fuse box, some plumbing and the black plastic "intake that isn't an intake". Subbing the horn for the intake still leaves some plumbing interference and is begging to destroy the horn via water ingestion. The left side is equally busy with plumbing and cosmetics. The bad part about my idea inside the left lower is (a) heat from the headers (easily solved with a heat shield) and the fact that any bracket there would be a cantilevered arrangement, which if it isn't designed suitably won't last long in such a high-vibration environment. -Brad ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 11:25:51 -0500 From: "John Harrison" Subject: RE: advice on mounting Fiamm horns? ('94) To: , Message-ID: <000c01c68b18$392108a0$1300000a@xxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" FWIW, leaving a wire where it can chafe on an exposed screw thread (as shown in the photo) is not good practice and is probably asking for a short circuit at some point. Hopefully this oversight was corrected when the zip ties replaced the tape job. Also FWIW, my 99 runs significantly cooler with the black plastic pieces in place, so it appears that the engineers at Honda do actually know what they are doing when designing a bike and the airflow management for it. Like I said. This was a mock-up job to test the feasibility of the system. I R an electri-can and do be making many wiring harnesessifications in the years. This is a teeny-tiny control job compared to some of the automated plants I've wired. Plus, that is good THHN wire there and is fused at 15A (holds for a 30 second blast on test) although that aluminum frame spar isn't physically grounded to the chassis in any spot so the first "short" would be FREE. As far as the engine cooling/heat: It's been a non-issue. I'm surprised at how little the bike needs to run the radiator fan even in Chicago traffic. Sometimes I get stuck for an hour on the Kennedy and the Edens only barely moving enough to not have to put my foot down. I keep an eye on the temp but it's not ever got over 210 and usually is under 200 (way under when under way). I think it IS hogwash myself. My '86 ran much hotter than the '98 does and the bodywork on that was quite spartan in comparison. I think that having the radiator up front is actually worse for airflow than the side-mounted ones regardless of the goofy black plastic junk honda put up in there. -Jim ------------------------------ Message: 7 Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 11:32:12 -0600 From: "Roger Chase" Subject: Re: VFR - So Cal To: , "VFR List" Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I am off the 405 and Beach Blvd in Huntington Beach.
