I wish there was something I could do to easily change the pitch of one of the tones so they would "clash" and not be such a pretty musical chord. They are loud. My GF doesn't like me to blow it in traffic because she says it really startles her and hurts her ears. If the notes were more of a clash not only would they be loud, they would draw blood and cause pain. That's what I'm aiming for... -JIm _______________________________________________ Vfr mailing list Vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |

An idiot in a car entering the freeway almost ran us both off the road. I dropped back as there was almost no traffic. He held his ground and at the last moment sounded his horn. I think the guy in the the car lost control of his bodily functions when the horn sounded. The harley guy had installed air horns that sounded like a diesel locomotive. Very loud and very scary to ANY cage driver as they all know a train is nothing to be messed with. Anyway, the guy jumped so hard he hit his head on the roof and then pulled over and stopped on the opposite side of the road. I pulled up alongside the harley dude and he had a shit eating grin on his face. Nothing makes cars and trucks get out of your way like 140+ decibels of angry Train horn! I've already had a weird thing happen with the super-loud horn. A Chicagogo native pulled out into me once from the Target on Logan Blvd near Elston (if anyone cares where this happened) It saw me and pulled right out in front of me from the left (actually INTO me and my lane) and forced me into the split. Splitting is not legal here but I wasn't going to argue technicalities here when a 3000lb vehicle wants the real estate that I was formerly using. I blasted the 139db horn at the idjut behind the wheel and it just leered back at me with a gold-toothy smile -plainly aware of what it was doing and not caring about putting my life in danger. It wanted the lane and even though it saw me there it didn't care. It just "took" the lane as it didn't want to wait another 15 seconds for a safe place to pull out. The horn was loud but it didn't seem to bother the subhuman POS behind the wheel in the least. I let it blast for a full 10 seconds after the near-collision and it just stared ahead and refused to make eye contact. My safety was of no concern to it. Holding the ground in some situations can get you killed... Move out of the way of those who would just as soon run you down than move the steering wheel 5-degrees or wait an extra 15-20 seconds I've had other strange things happen when I've used a horn in the past. I've had a person who pulled out in front of me slam on the brakes and stop in a really stupid place in front moving traffic as they attempted to change lanes or pull out into my path. The horn freaked them out and made them do something even stupider than the stupid thing they were doing. I've learned never to blow the horn when someone is allready in the act of pulling out in front of you if them hitting the brakes will make matters worse. There is a point of no-return where it is too late to hit the horn because of this. Oftentimes an inattentive driver when beeped at will panic and reach for the brakes first when they don't know what to do. Often this is the worst thing they can do for you and other drivers in the area and might cause a bad multi-car accident that could suck you in as well as cars start to spin everywhere bouncing off each other... So, what I'm saying is a really loud horn (and the Stebel is _A REALLY LOUD HORN_ -is not the panacea of safety devices we all wish it was. It's better than the cheesy bicycle horn that Honda deemed appropriate on the VFR -but it isn't the be-all-end-all of utilitarian traffic-fixing devices when cagers make their stupid mistakes. -Jim _______________________________________________ Vfr mailing list Vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |
