electrical gremlins

I've found plenty on this in the archives and elsewhere but I was just hoping
for a little clarification.

After R/R #3 went bad the battery was showing no rise in voltage with
RPM, so I had assumed stator, even though it showed good continuity.
I rewired R/R#4 to the battery, gave it a good ground, and put in
a new stator.

Things were good, I tested after a ride and it showed 13.2 afterward,
-perfect.

Now after a few days out of town, I go for a 20-30 mile ride and
after cooling down a bit the battery is showing 14V.

The Honda-approved trickle charger had been on the bike the whole time
i was gone, but it usually leaves the battery @ 13.2 V once it
shows "good".

Do I have a grounding problem?

Could it be in the instrument cluster or cluster wiring harness?

Is this why I REALLY need to install a voltmeter?
Is this the beginning of another R/R failure?
(Ambient temp was, by the way, much cooler today than during
the R/R melt-downs, but the bike was always brought up to
full operating heat.)

Thank you,

-Joseph
