end of MY membership
Hello friends and others of the VFR list. This is just a short note to say
I am now dropping off the VFR list after 7 or 8 years, not sure exactly how long, because I don't keep track of those sorts of things. I am leaving happy, not sad or frustrated. Last year I came to the realization that "motorcycling" was not enough fun for me any more. As with any activity, hobby, relationship or job, we always do a "cost/benefit" analysis, even if it is subconscious. When the cost outstrips the benefit, we start looking for some other place for our energies. While I still enjoyed every corner on every nice road while riding my VFR, when I put the whole package together -- cost of maintaining the bike, insurance, yearly inspections, new tires, riding long distances to get to good roads, riding in the rain most trips - the cost outstripped the benefits. So, I gave my VFR to my 33 year old son, he loved it, rode it for a while, then he decided that he needed a better car more than he needed a motorcycle, so the VFR is gone to a student at T A&M U. We still have Charlene's CBR600F3 but it doesn't get ridden much. If anyone knows of someone who wants a nice, garaged, low-mileage F3, have them drop me an email. Save my email address if you think you might want to stay in touch. If the Texas VFR Garage website stays up, then my old Oil and Filter articles will still be available. But they have not been updated in a while and I don't plan to ever again. Time for someone newer to step up and carry the banner. Mike in Houston PS - Contact me if anyone needs a pristine OEM muffler for the 1994-1997 VFR, I have one that has been in my garage attic for about 9 years and is virtually new. Also original, slightly used fork springs for the same model VFR and a well-used but rebuildable rear monoshock. I have no need for them anymore. _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |

I have noticed something different in your recent posts, boredom, perhaps. I am on the brink of a change as well, but not away from motorcycling, but rather deeper & deeper into it. I don't keep up with personal statistics much either but I know I bought the VFR exactly 5 years ago and I have put 59198 in that time. I recall the first year I did only about 5,000. I think I am now doing about 15,000 at year. I may not be long for this list either. As soon as I am certatin I can get Givi hardware to mount my cases on a ZX14 I will most likey trade up. Mike...we bantered a time or two, but I always found your responses and your posts in general to be well crafted and meaningful. I, and the collective List will most definitely miss your presence. Whoa. Mike. You? Leave the list? Nooooo. Can't be. That's like pizza without
green peppers. George Bush without Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney without Haliburton. Ben Roethlisberger without aesthetic surgery. France without their national role model, Zinedine Zidane. What will we do without you? I'll take Solace, and knowing at least that we can fall back on other erudite and dependable listers like Chris Burgess to fill your herculean shoes. Tread lightly on the links Mike and enjoy a fine Kentucky bourbon for me as you birdie into the sunset. If you ever set up an email fan club on bourbon, golf or scholastic musings, sign me up first.
