Any "wave" or "petal" brake rotor experience?

Not sure if I want to try a set on the VFR or not,
anybody care to share their experience?

TIA,
Greg

Steve Stover has a set. Steve, you still on the list? Or did you unsub like
so many others when selfish twits kept writing about hybrid cars?

Re: Any "wave" or "petal" brake rotor experience?

My friend with the 02 VFR just bought a set, front and rear, for his VFR. He really likes em. Maybe just cause they look cool, but he says they are definitely more powerful than the OEM rotors.

Re: Any "wave" or "petal" brake rotor experience?

I just installed a set of Galfer wave rotors on my
'95. I'm very pleased with how they perform. I wasn't
expecting a whole lot, I just wanted to replace the
olde rotors which were pulsating a bit. Right after
replacing them I did a 2 day novice school at
Thunderhill raceway, and man was I suprised at how
well these rotors performed!

With the old rotors and the DP HH+ pads, initial
bite was good, but after that things were kind of
vague. Pulling harder on the brake lever didn't
necessarily correlate to slowing down faster. With the
wave rotors, that initial bite 'feeling' just keeps
going and going - very progressive. I had no problems
slowing down the bike. In fact, I found my self
actually braking to early, and had to keep adjusting
my braking markers - or go faster using the same
markers...;)

I bought the rotors used, and used the pads that I
had on the bike. If you buy new, Galfer will insist
you use their pads, or they will not warranty the
rotors...

I had a problem with one of my rotors pulsating (either crash damage or
poor loading with a strap through the wheel with the $500 tow/haul job
immediately afterwards)

So I looked into these rotors. They had good review from what I could
Google with similar findings that Rudy had. I think they will cool
faster and that helps a lot. They definitely are cheaper than the stock
rotors from Honda and even through BikeBandit or Ronayres. I justed
needed the one side as only 1 rotor was bad (It was easy to tell by the
weird wear marks what was wrong) so the cost of 1 new rotor was about
the same as 2 aftermarket ones. In the end I bought a pair of used
Honda Rotors at a really good deal and now have a spare left rotor just
in case. I might keep my eye out for a pair of used wave rotors
though. One really has to trust a lot to buy used brake rotors as
usually they are being replaced for a REASON and that reason is they are
no good or the bike was crashed and the condition of the rotors is
iffy. I got lucky because mine were leftovers from a front-end swap and
from a guy on one of the VFR web forums. Saved me a whole ton of
money. But I always wonder if I would have been better off getting the
aftermarket rotors. Keep us informed on how they last in the long run.
I'm interested as I may end up getting a pair someday and longevity is
the thing I am worried about.

-Jim
