My 91 VFR is a "keeper"
Ralph,and interested VFR listers,
I just had to respond to your post, where you wrote about your 91 VFR. I too have A 91 model , & feel much the same toward it (Love it). Just yesterday I turned over 15K miles! I bought mine in (I think) 92 or 93, with less than 5k miles on it,(saw an ad in the local paper). It was so beautiful, I was smitten immediately, And paid the asking price without even bartering (which is something I almost never do) ,Because it looked / rode like a brand new bike. . After learning of the VFR list, I subscribed, and lurked without posting for a long time (several years). I started thinking of getting a newer VFR ,but what did they have that made them any better ? Newer models had more power (not much more), less weight (not much less),& stopped using gear driven cams (!) a step-backward in my opinion, I love to hear the gear drive whine! FI was added (I prefer simplicity of carbs),as was VTEC- which I can live without. Have any of the newer models been any quicker of faster..if so, not by much. (Don't even bring up catalytic converters!) So If I did get a newer VFR, it would be for ...easier/more readily availiable parts ? I have owned some 30 some bikes since I started riding in the mid-late 60's. My VFR is one of the bikes I've owned that I may (probably) will never sell ..Primarily, because no one would pay what it's worth (to me) and I wouldn't sell it for the $ that it realistically would sell for. It still looks beautiful. I bought a full tank bra,An upper fairing bra, & lower fairing bra soon after I took ownership of it, to protect the beautiful finish from rock & bug chips. So,the bike in what I call "stealth mode" is mostly black vinyl in appearance ,with only the red tailpiece and red metal trim beneath the footpegs visable. (I wanted to mute the arrest-me -red color, from L.E.O.'s watchful eyes.) I put a black Corbin seat with red piping (agreeing with the listers consensus of poor quality construction.), rubber cushions on bottom of seat were pop riveted to seat base! Most are missing now. But seat is comfortable .. I remember being a little suprised @cost, think it was over $400 more than 10 yrs. ago. Severals years ago (maybe 5 ?) I decided to put on a slip-on pipe. I was suprised that it was kinda hard to find a name -brand pipe to fit it, as it was gettin "old" and many pipe makes stopped making the for that generation. I found a new TBR pipe in a closeout sale @ a website for a Ca. shop & ordered it. I was pleased to learn that the TBR pipe wasn't too much louder than the stock pipe . Much lighter, and polished beautifully, it's still on it. Looks & sounds great. My 91 VFR, it's a "Keeper"...Joebiker996. _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |
