Re: Soft Luggage
I run three types of luggage on my bike (s). Hard saddlebags, tankbags
both magnetic and strap-on, and duffles. By tank bags are an Eclipse Sportbag, and a Chase Harper magnetic. Both are quality bags, with similar but different features. The Eclipse is expandable from large to a little too big, comes with a waterproof cover, a top and bottom section for paking and internal pockets for change, a wallet, carry piece, etc. THere is also a matte map pocket that can snap on the raincover if needed, it is normally snapped to the bag top. The Chase Harper has a magnetic base, is convertible to a strap on type, and has two main sections. A medium base, good for most running around town, with a sectiop for storage in the top flap, a map pocket, and a junk pocket in the front of the bag. The larger bag is about 50% taller, has another map pocket, side pocket for incidentals, gum, hair dryer, makeup etc., it will hold a weeks worth of underwear and t shirts (it is big) and fits well. The magnets hold this bag on just right, I use the grip rubber mats for kitchen drawer liners on my tank to protect them from the bags and scratching, it seems to work well. One caveat, though, zipping the large and the medium tankbags gives you a lot of storage space, but you cannot see anything in fron to the bike. Well, down the road, but not instruments, GPS, mirrors, et. al. Makes riding an adventure again. The saddlebags are the universallly loved GIVIs on the HOnda, a set of Wixom Brothers on the BMW. I wouldn't not ride a bagger again, given the utility a set of removable bags add to your bike. For fabric bags, I would look at Rev-Pac products, I know they are riders and make a quality product. As for duffles (I can hear you thinking, how much does this guy travel with?), I buy inexpensive water resistant bags from whoever. Yes, you can buy expensive dedicated bags from any number of motorcycle vendors, but I use my duffle for camping gear, so how neat does it have to be? The clothes are in the saddlebag, which is water proof, the bike maint gear is in the other bag, stuff I need to get to in a hurry is in the tankbag, and the duffle is for miscellaneous stuff that just needs to be carried. Hope this helps. BTW, I am a satisfied Eclipse customer 2X, it is just I got a screaming deal on fleabay when I was looking for a magnet bag. Ed Moore not enough farkles. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
