Re: Avon Tire deal...through September

I've used the Avon Azzaros before, and liked them quite a bit.

I've heard that correct air pressure is very important with these tires.
I was told that the rear "shouldn't EVER be run with less than 37 PSI". If your buddy dropped down to typical race track preasure (30-32 PSI) it would not suprise me that they did evil things.

I always made sure I had 36 front and 42 rear and they did great.

I've had a negative experience with Avon's.
Buddy of mine tried a pair of Assaro's (I think) 2 years ago and he hated them.
I rode his 929 and also felt they offered very little grip and inspired zero confidence.
They felt as if they were sliding a lot more than I like. And I have no problem sliding around.
(just look at my performance last WDGAH)

My friend also did 2 track days on these POS's (pieces of shit for those not in the lingo-loop).
Conversely, they offered great lifespan. Even after the trackdays @ ThunderHill.

IMHO, spend the extra $20-$50 and buy a good/great set of tires.
I've historically bought Dunlops 208's for $190 delivered and Pilots for $225.
Worth every frikin' cent. Think we're skimping on the wrong things...

I bought a rear 180 section ViperSport rear from Southwest Moto Tires for $148 shipped, and I'm planning on getting the front for free +$18 shipping. (Avon deal: http://www.avonmoto.com/contests/contest.asp through the month of September)
These are more sport-oriented, but I'll take what I can get for $166 total for two tires! Not a bad deal...

I'll keep everyone posted on how they fit, ride and wear.

RE: Avon Tire deal...through September

The new Venoms have a stiffer sidewall--could explain a lot of teh
squirming around at track pressures...if that was the case.
