VF750F 1983
Gents
I've acquired this VF750 that has sat for around 9 years and am having some small problems with it. Firstly I spent many nights dissembling and cleaning the carbs and then reassembling them AAAHHHH!!... Not for the faint hearted. only to find the coils were open circuit. So second hand coils and.....fuel pump not pumping?? Bypass pump relay and away we go yes it started after some time and all seemed to be well until I felt the rectifier and found it to be somewhat Bl@@dy hot. The wires running to it were wrapped in elect tape which had started to melt. I've removed the tape and found three yellow wires. My problem is, are they wired correctly? and if not which one goes where? what is the reason for the wires to get so hot? Are they supposed to be all yellow. I've checked the voltage at the battery and it is charging over 14volts....normal?? Thanks Rod _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |

My problem is, are they wired correctly? 3 yellow wires from alternator to RR. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which of the three pins on the RR for those wires. > and if not which one goes > where? what is the reason for the wires to get so hot? If the wires are getting hot, there's too much resistance. I'd start by checking the connector where the alternator hooks into the main wiring harness, and then the connector at the RR. An easy solution (well, it eliminates the wires as a potential problem, you might have other issues as well, such as a bad RR) would be to get yourself 3 lengths of larger-gauge wire, cut out the connector at the alternator, and solder the heavier wire on there. Run that wire to the RR and attach it to the RR (solder or spade terminals as you prefer. Solder, if done properly, is more secure and less prone to corrosion, but a PITA to get on and off.
