Re: Won't start... OK, wouldn't start / Eclectical System Voltages???

As an eclectician, did you take any onboard VOM readings? What were the
voltages?

Scenario...........

Given the VFR charging system is not the most robust, the electric jacket
and heating grips did not allow net charging to the battery.

@ destination, there was enough juice to enable (ignition, FI, ECU) the VFR
to be bump started.

Was your ride home colder? LOL. This allowed the battery to get charged,
enough to start the bike @ home and then to restart again later.

What is the rest voltage of the battery? 12.5-6VDC, if healthy and fully
charged it should be high 12s even low 13s.

Now is the time to learn about the VFR charging system and not, somewhere a
long way from home, US, during riding season.

Check out this link (the link through VFR World is not working.....)

maintenance.htm_

Though it describes the 94-97 model, the complexity still remains in the Gen
5. Even though the wiring looks fine, check out the connectors (break/make)
and check for signs of corrosion.

As Bob mentions, an onboard VOM is highly recommended.

Good Luck, HTH
