re: Avon Storms
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Avons. Normally I replace two rears to one front and think that's pretty typical. Sounds as if the Avons almost reverse this pattern.
Vic < (ish, I'm too lazy right now to look up the specific numbers), and each rear was half worn at that point (I've still got the original rear, and was going to put it back on once I've worn this one down, actually). I'm in need of a front right now. So, I'd believe 9-11k on the AV45/46, and if the Storm is similar, then I'd expect similar mileage.>> --------------------------------- Don't pick lemons. Hard braking and cornering tend to wear the front, hard accelerating and cornering tend to wear the rear (though most people wear their rears flat). Obviously suspension comes into play here also. In any event, my recollection is that the AV45/46 combo is pretty consistent in getting 6-8k up front, and 10-14k in back (or so). I think VFRD has more info on these and other tires, if you've interested. later, Johnj _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |

Re: Avon Storms
I love the Avons (AV45/46) I have gotten 6500-7000 from the rears and
11,000-13,000 from the fronts. Bob Tuesday, April 3, 2007, 10:23:41 PM, you wrote: > Thanks for sharing your experience with the Avons. Re: Avon Storms
Dam, I must be doing something wrong. I chew up fronts just as fast as rears?
Must be in need of some further instruction or something. Not that a weekend class wouldn't do me good in general but as always Time is a bigger expense than money these days. Re: Avon Storms
Bryan, the Avon guy I was speaking with (Ski) at their US HQ in Seattle suggested running 38 in the front on their tires and 40-42 in the rear. What do you run in the front?

Re: Avon Storms
Vic
I run the suggested pressures listed on the chain guard. Which I believe is 36 front 42 rear. Recall that I was running Prelli Diablo Stradas last year. Ya know, I have noticed a WIDE varation in cool tire pressure from morning to afternoon up here. In the spring/fall in NH/VT we get the 20-32 deg f mornings. Which I was setting tire pressures on (at home). By evening on the ride home its in the mid 50 to 60s. Which as we all know would result in a much higher pressure. To combat this I run a bit under in the AM and as a result a bit over in the PM. This may be why I am consuming fronts faster? Re: Avon Storms
Can you say BINGO.....(lower tire pressures = more heat / wear).
Last try with Avons was a few years ago with my 91 ST1100 when they were first introducing the AV45/46. The front was mis-molded (out of round) and the rear required a wicked amount of weights to balance. The factory was very helpful in correcting the problem, but left me wary of the brands quality control. Why did you switch from the Pirelli Diablo Stradas? Re: Avon Storms
Brad
Well the temp/pressure change problem isn't going away unless I move south or burn more fossil fuels. So I guess I just have to live with under in the morning and over in the evening during the spring and fall months. I left the stradas because I would like to find a tire that gives me one season worth of life. The Stradas died late in the season but I was under mileage last year. So I am hoping to avoid having to put new tires on next fall. Well I run the higher pressures that avon suggested 38-40 in front and 44-46 in the rear. both of my tires have been great on wear and took less weight than the oem dunlops (in fact the rear did not need any weight added).
