Swapping back and forth between stock muffler and Micron

When I put a Micron slip on on my bike a year or so ago I had to cut the cylindrical gasket that is about 1/8" thick and 1" to 1.5" long off of the collector box outlet since the micron does not use one. I have decided to put the stock filter back on for a long road trip and had to buy a new gasket. The thing was $17! The question is, how can one swap back and forth between the two mufflers without destroying this gasket each time? Surely someone on the list has figured this out. If so, I would sure appreciate learning the secret. I am sure I will want to swap again in the future.

Thanks,
Vic

Re: Swapping back and forth between stock muffler and Micron

I encountered this problem and decided to stop using the Micron. I couldn't
be careful enough to avoid damaging the gasket during its removal. Maybe you
can cut one so you can "peel" it off and reuse it that way?

Re: Swapping back and forth between stock muffler and Micron

I've left my Micron in place, but when I removed the stock gasket, I
used a utility knife to make a single longitudinal cut, spread the
gasket out some, slid off the end. I suspect that I could reuse it, as
its composition almost seemed like a self-healing material.
My gasket was over 5 years old, yet came off in pretty shape. I would
think that a gasket only a few months old could be removed w/o any
significant damage (other than the cut).
