RE: [SPAM] RE: Givi vs Ventura
Wait a minute! Before you go, will somebody please post a photo and/or
link of this Ventura thingy majingy setup. I have really enjoyed reading the debates, but I sure would like to know what you are talking about, being new to the VFR world et'all. Thank yee. :-) Kirk Luchenbach, Texas -----Original Message----- From: vfr-bounces@xxxxxx [mailto:vfr-bounces@xxxxxx] On Behalf Of Paul.Smith@xxxxxx Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:39 AM To: vfr@xxxxxx Subject: [SPAM] RE: Givi vs Ventura Thanks all, for your replies. I think for now I'll keep the Givi. The faults I find with it are not directly related to the box itself, and it does everything I need it to do. I should really take the money and concentrate on getting my Vmax back on the road. Paul in SoCal "John Harrison" Sent by: vfr-bounces@xxxxxx 04/20/2007 11:08 AM To cc Subject RE: Givi vs Ventura Paul, I have used trunks on several bikes (my current travel bike is an 06 Triumph Tiger with the factory hard bags and top case) and I have used the Ventura set up on a VFR800. The Ventura is pretty good, but I much prefer a locking trunk. The trunk is more secure, faster to access, easier to find things in, waterproof without messing with rain covers or garbage bag liners, and most trunks are easier to remove from the bike than the Ventura bags when loaded, if you use both the Ventura straps and the zipper. For short trips, the trunk is just more secure and convenient. For trips, if you have more stuff that will fit in the two Ventura bags and don't have saddle bags, then adding that stuff gets to be an issue. With a trunk, you still have the passenger seat and the top of the trunk available for adding extra stuff. Now granted, that is a lot of stuff to haul. My two Ventura's carried me through a week long trip including carrying clothes, extra gloves, Widder electrics, a one gallon insulated water jug, first aid kit, and tool roll. But I was credit card camping and there was no room left on the bike to pack a sleeping bag, mattress, or tent. If I had been using a trunk, I could have carried everything and still had room to strap a bag, mattress, and tent on the seat. I would keep the 46L GIVI. A couple of views of the setup loaded: Ventura pack turned towards the front, with my sleeping bag, tent, and groundcloth/bluetarp strapped to the package rack: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...&postcount=193 Second photo from the bottom shows the other side: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...&postcount=206 This shows the setup unleaded. The Ventura pack slides over the big hoop, and has a buckle setup that loops around the first rack rail and clips back to itself for security: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=63 So, you can see how you can get weight up pretty high and far back pretty quickly with a setup like this. That's the biggest disadvantage, right after the limited capacity when compared to a 3 hard-case setup. I'm happy with it for now though. If nothing else, it forces me to pack less crap, which is a good discipline. later, Johnj _______________________________________________ vfr mailing list vfr@xxxxxx For subscription and delivery options: https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr |
