back in the saddle...and Helibars back in production for 90-93 VFRs

I had a chance to take the VFR out last night -- first time since I got
new tires and installed a set of Helibars.

I thought the new tires would make a big difference, but I was wrong. They
made a huuuuuge difference. I had no idea how bad the old tires were. It's
like whole different bike.

After riding the Hawk most of last year, getting back on the VFR in the
winter was painful. With my not-very-long arms, the return to a "leaned
over" seating position was not a happy one. I tried adjusting the bars
to no avail. Some days, my hands would cramp so bad that I was afraid
of what might happen if I kept riding...and this was on 15 minute trips.
I was actually considering selling it. I raised the stock bars as far
as I dared and adjusted the angle...no joy. I called Helibar, since I had
been watching eBay for over a year, and they said they had decided to
run another batch for my generation VFR. I ordered and got them installed.
At first I was disappointed - they were barely higher than where I had the
stock bars raised up to. Then I raised the helibars as far as I dared
(they are 1/2" above the top of the tube) and found, much to my suprise,
that they did not hit the fairings. Some of the wiring is a little tight
at full lock, though, so I need to be careful. That seems to have done
the trick...I am sitting upright enough that on the freeway with the
stock windshield, I can feel myself being pushed backwards when I hit
a good gust of wind -- basically a weight-neutral position.

I love my VFR again!
