    I'm guessing that's exactly it.

As for how to sit on the bike...I had first mentioned on a thread that on my first ride with the bike (a 4 hour trip when I had to ride it home from where I had purchased it) my hands, back, and back of my neck were killing me.

So the tip was: squeeze the gas tank a bit with your legs, and use your core muscles to keep yourself up - as opposed to putting all your weight on the handlebars via your hands. I found this little change made quite a difference in maintaining my comfort for longer periods.

Bought a VFR a few months ago, and found that for me the seat just sucked after about 30-40 miles. So as a Christmas present to myself bought a Sargent. Won't be able to make any trips until spring, but even for around town it's a bleepload more comfortable to me. Long term it'll be worth every penny.

Will never understand why bike makers do this: build a fine machine and then stick a lousy saddle on it. Previous bike was a '93 Vulcan 750; great bike, but the seat was designed by someone who didn't like the customers. After my first trip on it, spent the money on a Mustang; like I expect the Sargent to be, it was worth every penny.

Corbin still the only seat with removable pillion backrest?

I have the '08 VFR800 (and love it).
With this thread now being 2 years old, I wanted to make sure the information was still current and that the Corbin is the only option if I want a removable backrest for the pillion rider?

Thanks for the comparo. Based on the review and additional comments, I am heavily leaned towards the Sargent, but it seems that may not be an option if they still don't make a backrest for it. It seems they could claim a larger market share with this small amount of extra R&D.

Far as I know, yes; Sargent never has added that option

I went out today on my stock seat. I have gone out before with fabric pants and have the same issue as some here with sliding up on the seat. Let me tell you that the difference when you wear leather riding pants is night and day.

I can't help but wonder if the problem many have with the stock seat is due to wearing textile riding gear that won't grip the seat well. I suspect that changing the seat to leather would be a completely different experience.

Those open crotch leather chaps in the rain are a different experience too.

When you ride with a passenger, will it be for trips or fun runs? Let me explain, trips could mean luggage,
    luggage could mean top case,
you can get a back pad to put on the top case
now you can get the seat you want, and still possibly have a backrest when you want it...

oh, and there is a guy that designs makes back rests to add to bikes, google Pirate's Lair. When I had my K12RS, several years ago, he was on that board too. Wanted a back rest for his bike, no one made one, he designed and modeled one. Several other listers saw the pics and liked it, wanted one too, he made several more -- what he made did NOT look like he made it in his garage, this was the real deal; and sold them. Couple people had other bikes as well, he designed/engineered other back rests for them. He ended up turning it into a full fledged business and now sells backrests and other motorcycle farkles, his own and others.

I use one of those backrest things that let you read in bed. It corderouy and kind of a maroon color so it goes with both VFRs. I am looking for a sort of yellow one for the Beemer. After seeing some of the prices these dudes are charging for backrests, I just strap on my backrest thing with a few bungees and I'm on the road.

I was having a bit of a guilt trip going about touting my buddy Rich's seats, thinking they were pricy. Not any more..WHEW!

Really? I find a huge difference too, but totally contrary to yours. When I have my one piece on, which is leather, I slide on the seat much easier. With the stitch, not as easy. Which works out, because if I am wearing my leathers I am either on the track or doing some agressive canyon riding. If I have the stitch on, I am commuting or touring.

    Interesting .....

My leather pants are brand new, so maybe when they wear in things will be different? I definitely felt like even in jeans I slide around a bit, but in my riding pants I felt solid when I needed to be and able to move when I needed as well. We'll see how the pants wear in.

What somebody needs to come up with is a seat and pants combo combining style and Velcro. Not only would this ditch the sliding around on the seat stuff but also make for great fun getting off the bike at the local sidewalk bistros.

Yikes! norkleboy is stalking some dude named Nolan in Seattle. Oh well, better he stalks some made up character rather than an Ezine. That would call for some professional help or some dudes in white coats and those big nets.

Are there any comprehensive reviews of these with regard to how they compare for passenger comfort?

Pretty much like comparing one bra to another. They are still a one size fits all situation so your opinion will depend on whether you have big tits or little, saggy or perky, wide or narrow, pointy or flat.

Should work if you are an ass man too
