Oh wow that looks awesome. You got any close ups of the custom brackets? That is going to look killer with the twin round headlights.

Thank you! Yeah, the twin round headlights should look sweet. I have the brackets designed and I am making them out of tubing the same size as the upper cowl bracket. I'll post some pics when complete. I designed it to bolt to an unmodified upper fairing/gauge stay. Remove 6 fasteners and the 900RR stuff comes off and you could install stock bodywork.

That's the plan... we'll see what the bank account says when I finish it.

Cool, if we don't hook up sooner. Be great to see this one in action, but it's also starting to look like a museum piece, be a bit hard being mean to such a great work of moving art.

Tried to show some of the brackets I fabricated but I don't think they show very good on these shots. The fairings are super solid.

I've got some miles on it now and it is awesome. I might add a touch more preload to the rear and I still need to get on a good stretch of road and adjust the damping. Steering lock is quite generous, I've been in many parking lots and never touched the stops. Jetting feels pretty spot on.

The brakes are F2 for now. I am almost done with the mods to fit 91 VFR calipers and rotors which gives you bigger discs and full size pads.

Nice job on the bike and the pictures. I got an f3 front wheel on my 91, its way lighter than the original, same spacers etc, I have single pinch bolts on the fork legs where as the f3 had two per side. Same axle etc, happy motoring

So... When's the first track outing? Give me a week window! Would love to hear that bike screaming around a track! Haven't had a chance to sweep the track with my body, out there, in many years!
Very very nice bike. You need to become a bike builder?

I'm running out of Summer. Been so focused on the bike I've neglected Summer house projects. We'll see if I can pull it together. I want to run it at The Ridge so bad!

Lowers were not part of the initial plan but after getting one of them super cheap to see if it was doable I got the other side.

Ha! Me either. I am so glad it worked out. Best of both worlds... V4 goodness and dual round headlights. Especially when you can't afford the ones that came that way. :)

Not to shabby, guess I'll have to schedule an appointment to come to take a peek ;) also while here, I just meet a guy here in town that has a 86 vfr1000R want to ask you thoughts and ideas to what it takes to sinc tune the carbs? He's looking at taking it to the local dealer to have it done and said hold your horses. Original owner with 69k on the clock, he wants to go riding and compare rides ;) but feels his isn't running that great.

    Thanks man.

Regarding the 1000R, it is probably due for a general carb clean then a bench synch with those miles if it has never been done. In my experience, carb synch has to be way out to really affect more than idle and just off idle.

But if he wanted to find out for sure, some mercury sticks and a 90 degree Motion Pro carb synch wrench/screwdriver would do the trick. But if he's not doing carb work a lot (which it sounds like he's not), he's approaching the cost of having somebody do it (I would remove my lowers before taking it in to a shop.) They shouldn't charge more than an hour labor?

    Finally finished the brakes.

Anxious for a test ride. Should be quite a bit nicer than the F2 calipers with their tiny brake pads. Calipers are fully rebuilt and have brand new Galfer pads.

Part of my original plan for this project was to rework a completely mangled upper cowl stay because I wasn't really worried about the stock mirror mounts. I did refurbish a complete cowl stay and gauges to use in the mean time. These will be used on one of my next projects.

Ready to go in a box and then install when needed...

I was very relieved when the "new" cowl stay was installed and everything still lined up. Custom brackets up to the mirror block off plates. Tidy bar end mirrors will be installed that can be easily removed for a track day.

Now I "get" to tear it down and start prepping all the new brackets for paint and get the bodywork ready for the first temp paint job.

Hope everybody had a great weekend!
    Mike.
