Fair enough. The coms and music are a real nice option on long rides with a few guys though. And freeway riding during commutes.

There is a safety side to riding with comms when in groups. There has been at least a handful of times that it's saved me and my riding buddies from something bad happening. There was at least more than a few times that it's prevented getting a "performance award" from the CHP.

I like to call them Welcome to California Tourist Information Taxation and Revenue Forms. The guys I ride on trips with all have Sena coms and one of them has a radar detector. When that thing goes off, we all here it. But does no good for laser. If you have a laser detector and it goes off, it usually means you got lazed. There is no pre warning on those.

My SENA 20s is fantastic - plenty loud with earplugs and the mic is fantastic. Excellent phone app and easy updates. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

I'm thinking about getting an smh 10. I don't have a smartphone. Would a Bluetooth mp3 player work for music?

Yes, as long as it is a supported Bluetooth technology. I.e. Bluetooth v2.0, etc. Many of the comm systems allow at least two different Bluetooth connections. Something like a phone on one channel and a GPS on the other.

Seriously Rob. If I were to do this over again, I would choose the S20 over the S10. It is only a little but bugger but it appears the battery life is considerably longer and controls easier to use when wearing gloves. The S10 is good mind you, but I think the 20 is better.

You have the 10 right? So the 20 is smaller?

One of my concerns is, my helmet is so snug it hard to use even ear buds.

If I were to buy a new unit, I would get the 20 too.

Seemingly longer battery life as Randy mentioned and FM tuner really interests me. Perfect for entertainment and severe weather reports. Worldwide tuning on most frequencies. Maybe if I ride by HAARP I can disrupt or create some weather with it.

From reputable source, so no fact checking needed. Also watch out for microwaves too:

Thanks AM. I could probably get by with just fine with FM but for trips in the mountains it'd be sketchy. Ha! AM/FM.

What about the fit in your helmet?

Lolzzz, AM wishes 20s did have AM/FM. I miss listening to Coast to Coast on AM frequency when out late at night looking for Manbearpig.

Fit on helmet is amazing. It's an outside unit. My 10 takes up no space inside my helmet...except mic which just tucks to the side.

Speakers stick inside helmet in ear space between pads (no need for ear buds in tight helmet).

Speakers are thin as well. I think with 20s, they may be thinner. (But check that if you need, I didn't pull the spec page for the 10).

    Cool, thank you.

Coast to coast explains the HARP reference. An entertaining show but not nearly as good without Art. Loved the secret agent call-in line.

I'm actually old enough to remember him. Wow, now I feel old! Lolzzz

Listening to the paranormal show is definitely interesting. No matter if one thinks the stuff pseudoscience or not, it broadens your knowledge of what ideas and happenings are out there in the world.

Hope you get a headset you are happy with! Excited to see what you decide. Either way, I think you'll love it!

Dang, well, maybe go to the specs.
Compare 10 and 20...if those are the ones you are down to. See what the 20 would give you that the 10 can't.

Evaluate if the differences in the 20 would be worth the $110 bux for you. Hard call, but that may help.

Basically with either model you get: hands and wire free music, talking to buddies you can pair up with, and can answer incoming phone calls.

I don't really need presets and a couple hours more battery life when I really think about it. Or FM radio. Those are wants.

I need what the 10 can give me and I'm happy with mine.

The 10s has FM too. I went from the original SMH-10 for about 5 years to the 10S. I looked at the 20S, but didn't see any real advantage over the 10S for the cost increase. I'm totally happy with the 10S (I use it primarily for music and phone).
FYI, they have a new one out now...the 30K. It can intercom with up to 16 at a time!

Oh my, you are right! Mine isn't the 10s. Look at all this misinformation I gave. Glad you chimed in...

Mine is the original SMH-10...that's why no FM. I just got home and looking at the box right now.

Sounds like 10s would do me for an upgrade when I'm ready.

Thanks guys. Saved me some research. When the time comes, the 10S looks like a real good option.
