Any part of the bike other than the kick stands or tire touches the ground....its a drop. Or whatever I decide. this is not a democracy. JFYI. All of mine were from a stopped position and never involved actual contact with another vehicle or object. One was close though.

I just remembered. My very very first drop. My dad purchased a Honda CB400, looked like the old 1982 CB1100F Silver with Blue stripes, when I was around 14 yrs old. It was in the garage and I was messing around with it sitting on the seat moving the handle bars left right and it fell off its kick stand. The fear settled and I had to get it back on the kick stand before Dad noticed anything.

Dam old age sucks, hard to remember. But I just remembered another drop. I was moving my 1986 V45 Magna in the garage and didn't put the kick stand down properly. I layed it on the left denting my wife's front fender. That mistake cost me $700, wifey insisted I get the dent fixed. But when she hit garbage, denting hood and bumper, coming off a truck and hitting my car. She didn't caugh up the money to fix it. And I asked her why she didn't chase the truck down. She had no excuse, but traffic stopped and they got away.
Chalk me up total of 4 drops so far. I will probably remember more later.

Copy that. Lemme try to recall some of my others... :D

86 VFR - Station wagon suddenly and for no apparent reason stopped in front of me. I couldn't stop in time and hit the rear bumper at about 5mph and then fell over.

86 VFR - On ramp from Hawthorne Bl to the 405 N, 0200 hours, both tires hit coolant while leaned over and I low sided, BAM, like That. Cracked the right side engine cover (had it welded later) and missed about a week's worth of classes due to a banged up knee.

87 VFR - Riding through a back alley and inadvertently braked while my front tire was on a square of cardboard, front end washed out and I went down at about 5mph or so.

That's all I can remember right now (CRS... :( )...

Corrected. Funny how things like that work. You break things, and it just has to be fixed like right now. Wives break something? Well, we men should not have put that thing somewhere that our wives could break them and the colour and design on the did towels are more important than getting a silly car fixed...especially if it is your car and no hers.

    Rant officially concluded....for now......

I finally did it. The kickstand didn't auto deploy in a parking lot. Bent clutch lever, scuffed fairing. I already unbent the lever, haven't really checked to see how bad the scuffs are. The previous owner/s had obviously had some light asphalt encounters so the character of the bike is only mildly increased.

Came so very close yesterday. Filling up with fuel and the forecourt was in shadow so it was not until I was walking back to the bike I noticed a damp area. Gingerly took the bike off the centre stand onto the side stand and departed. Had to stop at exit and when I put my foot down felt like I was standing on ice. Rode out about 100 yards down the road and stopped beside a grassy area to clean soles of my boots, almost dropped it again. Cleaned soles of my boots on the grass and then on dried muck till they stop slipping.
Had I dropped it at either point it would have been straight back to video the spill and contact the owner.

If we are including "almost" occurrences, then I can add one from the summer of 2015. Rented Street Glide (Harley is the only dealer in Rapid city with rentals) proved to be a reasonably comfortable, but top-heavy ride. Stopped on a side road woodsy area with a view of Rushmore through the trees, so my friend could have a smoke. After a 10 minute break, we fired up to head back to the main road through the forest.

He had parked his Glide after a loop turn to face out, but I had pulled up more parallel to the road. So he pulled out, and I clutch-slipped to make the left turn across the crowned pavement.

The place was narrow and tilted a bit in addition to the higher center, so I was feathering and had a pretty good steer angle in. Just about the time that the front tire got to the crest, the V-twin hiccupped.

Forward motion ended, and the bike instantly began a lean to the left. I was off of it faster than I have ever dismounted before, and fighting against the ever increasing angle away from upright. It took everything, and I mean absolutely all I had to stop that fall and return it to vertical. All I could think of was how expensive the shiny bits were, and the size of the deductible that was my responsibility. Somehow, I managed it.

Might have been a funny sight, an old dude wrestling with a heavy cruiser, while yelling "I am NOT going to drop this bike!"

In spite of being on a Harley, riding the Black Hills was an extraordinary experience. I will go back.

White O6. Filled up, tight right u-turn. Went right down. Bent rear brake lever, broken front lever. Mirror snapped off. Several miner scratches and and a few chips. Apparently bent fairing stay. From pride and joy to 10 footer in 2 seconds.

I was going riding the next day, had to have a mirror. Honda dealer didn't have one. They gave me the part #. Ride MotorSports had one, thank God.

Gimme one more! Came in too hot pulling into the farm road (gravel), ended up in the ditch. Full gear, no damage to myself or my moto. I laughed at myself for doing that!

Since I had nothing better to do, I went back through this entire thread and must admit I left three accidents off the list (my memory is almost as good as Jeff Sessions):
    1. 1985 on my 83 VF750 on the Angeles Crest Highway - complete incompetence on my part, went off the side of road, nearly off side of mountain!
    2. 1986 on my replacement 83 VF750 on the Angeles Crest again - cager oil failure left center of road slick, went down on right side, ground a hole through the side cover, had to call the wife and have her bring up cover from first 750 and some oil.
    3. 1987 on my wife's VT500 Ascot on the way to work, woman made a u-turn in front of me in a Buick station wagon, hit her left front quarter panel and flew over her hood!
Hardly any damage to either vehicle, but got $2500 out of it!

That should make a total of 5 Randy.
