Besides getting the fat bitch on the center stand and not reading the instruction to change the oil (who reads instructions to change the oil, come on a bolt, a filter and some oil who needs to read about this!;-)) Today my bike got her first home oil change (almost still working on it. Letting the oil drain out for a few hours and needing a few beers due to the following).

I thought it would be a no brainer. Take the lower cowl off on the left side and after that a grade school child should be able to take off the filter and pull the drain plug and done! BUT no, Honda engineers said to themselves even in development and in writing the manual that I don’t read,

"let’s make this the easiest maintenance issue for them and add a +5 frustration ratio to it. They will have to go and get 1 or 2 filter wrenches before it finally works for the first time. We will add those FUCKING ANNOYING PLATIC TABS THAT BREAK, AND THE DEALER WILL BE CLOSED WHEN THEY NEED THEM, Then they will not read to take off the right side lower cowl to get the FUCKING filter out because that would add more work and broken tabs that they will need when the dealer is closed! They think that they know better than we do and want to do it themselves instead of our techs!”

Tiny hands and A.M vibe to help lower your blood pressure?

Soooo many frustrating little things, but once you get the hang of it you'll be so much better the next time.

Can I sketch you an illustration for smiles? Good lucks!

As per the instructions in the owners manual. Used the filter cup provided when I bought a Honda filter. Spanner on the nut.

Remove left undercowl and the right.

Removing the right lower fairing will help. You need to "wriggle" the old filter out as it only fits a certain way and the same to put back in. I've only used Honda OEM filters and filter wrench as indicated by he poster above. It works, but you need some mellow tunes and you should always wrench with a pal! ;)

As for the plastic tabs, many available for cheap on ebay, Order in the hundreds! Keep'em on hand. You may be able to salvage one from a car, usually in the wheel well holding plastic "skirts" etc or where mud guards would attach...

    Good luck buddy.

Loosen the lower radiator mounting bracket and entire radiator retention fasteners. Then pushing the radiator forward will give the filter just enough room. Tip: replace the lower plastic snapperoos with tyrap's or zip ties and leave a few in the trunk for next time.

I bought a OEM off ebay and did not get this cup. F...! I bet this filter is the incorrect one. I could not find the part # off the manual and went off the ebay sellers saying it is correct. ;-)

Thank you everyone. I will try my hand at it on Sunday (Sober;-)). She is in the garage still dripping away for a day now. This should be the cleanest oil change ever. Or I drained every drop and she will have major engine damage due to not having any residual oil in her. I see a plus and a minus in doing what I have. I planned on putting oil in the filter prior to putting it back, but I see no way of keeping it in while trying to wrestle it back in. I saw a video on youtube and the prior generations with side radiators are so much easier to get this done. The only plus I see on the 14' is that you only have to take the lowers off not the entire side if that is a plus. I HATE PLASTIC and PLASTIC hates me! Any advice on keeping oil in the filter? I would rather have it in when starting it up so it gets to everything quicker than being pulled from the pan. I have always done this on my other bikes.

And having a friend hold the radiator back out of the way helps too. I wouldn't call it a surgery but is more entailing than it ought to be.
I have a question is off subject has anyone performed the pair/snorkel and flapper mod on a 2014 model yet? I just did it yesterday and the fueling is much better but I can smell raw fuel in the exhaust. I removed the air box vacuum hoses from both sides of the air box. Any suggestions??

The filter number on it own is fine. The part number I quoted is the filter and wrench which come in a sealed packet together.

    http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts...r-vfr800f-oil-pan-oil-pump/o/m156360sch849141

Part no 10 is the filter on its own.
Part no 2 is filter and wrench.

Thanks Fink, I always appreciate good advice. I will look for this or ask for it again in another 5,000 miles. Well that is if I can get this one on!;-)

I am doing my 600 mile service at home today or tomorrow. I will take the time to document the oil change procedure for the US/CAN bikes step by step with photos and post up a thread for reference.

Not bad, once you get the hang of it. Got it down to a science.

My only other comment is there are different size hex bolts that hold on the fairings (different size shoulders), keep track of where they came from when you remove them.

I don't worry about getting oil on the exhaust pipes, I just spray it down with Simple Green and rinse when I am done.

Thanks thtanner, Some will appreciate a proper procedure process for the Gen 8. I would have early in the week, (but thinking this was a no brainer, no issues, proper space underneath, limited tools, beer, inpatient, late at night- early morning) but now it the thick of it and ending tomorrow morning with successfully getting it done or (successfully using the Utah-Mormon holiday of the 24th of July with fireworks to explain to the fire marshal and the insurance company my claim of loss of both bike and home) I'm working on that one right now as a type. I got out of a lot of shit and I hope my sharp wit of old is still has a bit of edge to it!):Flame::Popcorn:

Allyance, Damnit!;-) now you tell me! :Moony: I think if one thing that everyone knows is I am inpatient and don't read instructions. Next thing you will tell me or us is to use plastic bags to keep all the bits organized. Again I hate plastic and it hates me!:Smokin:
