The time span could be shorter since one in seven "residents" of the US are Californians..

A mini version of road rage over who gets to go first can be observed on the loading especially in the Summer months on the Washington State Ferries. Cager lines can get long at some terminals. Loading procedures and sequencing is based on safety. In order are:

Walkons (pedestrians) who for the most part don't congregate on the vehicle deck. 100% you may ask? Nope.. The WSFS is very democratic even to the clueless.

Bicycles and riders. These go to the front of the boat.

Motorcycles.. Same deal front, of the boat. Offloading follows suit.

Where the brown stuff hits the props is that motorcycles can "lane split" the long cage lines to a staging area on the dock or waiting area and when the cagers see us dudes on bikes "jumping" the lines, road/roid rage sets in.

What is funny is that complaints can be lodged via text or laptop or half a dozen other ways to the headshead in bureaucracy caves and under the State Transportation regs these complaints must be accounted for and responded to..

The State of Washington has some new traffic regs built around cell use that are gonna be interesting. Eating and I guess eyebrow plucking are now verboten whislt driving or in many cases a facsimile of driving..

How does WA state respond to cager road rage complaints about bikes splitting to the front of the line? Do they hand out crayons and coloring books and have everybody sit around a campfire singing kum ba yah?

Sorry, but I would not hold your breath on a lane-splitting bill passing. I just don't see it happening without you "smokin' some congressman pole" to get enough floor time for a vote. States have been trying it for years, but the bills just keep on fumbling. Maybe if more of those crooks (politicians) rode it would be a different story though?

Any pending bill can be accessed via a state's website. This includes all the WWWW&H stuff and specific names for or agin.. Pole smoking is optional if one is so inclined.

What REALLY helps the case for Lane Splitting in CA is the support it has with the California Highway Patrol. Being able to lane split on a bike allows the CHP's to get to accident/traffic incidents in gridlocked traffic all over the urban hellholes of CA. It just makes complete sense to use all that unused space between cars! I really wish all the other states the best of luck and common sense among their politicians to make this happen.

I seriously can't describe to you all how liberating it is to be able to split lanes and go to the front of the line at intersections, and filter in between crawling cars in traffic, and basically just glide like the wind when every douchebag in a car is stuck in traffic. It makes most, if not all of the irritating, self-centered actions that cagers do to each other quite moot. Things like left lane camping, formation driving, tailgating, and just about any congestion, are terminated with extreme prejudice if you so desire. And believe me, once you have done it you will want to keep doing it. It's like being released from prison after 25 years of hard labor. Or flying away from the nest for the first time. Or eating a chocolate Éclair....with strawberries. Or calling in sick when you're not sick so you can sleep in or go somewhere fun. Or lying to your a$$hole boss then flipping them off as you walk out the door. This is how it feels to be able to lane split. Whenever I do, I say, "F***k all You All mother****rs"! as I accelerate away and leave them all behind. LOL!

I wonder how lane splitting works(gets along) with the autonomous driving vehicle trend of the future

One really cool thing in Washington is riding to the head of the ferry line which can be almost a mile long. You get to BS with other riders waiting for the boat and load first, behind the peds and pedallers.

    Works fine.

We have a ton of vehicles in California with lane-assist/self-driving (you see probably a Tesla per minute on our freeways,) and they have no problems.

As someone who spent 8 years as a motorcycle courier in London England, and Los Angeles, I so miss not miss being able to lane spilt, or traffic filter in UK parlance. Let's hope this bill can be resurrected, and finds its way to Oregon.
