been seaching around but cannot find anything.
My brand new '14 800 runs great of course, except it sure does vibrate at 4500 plus or minus 250. Is this a normal vtec thing on this beast? My '06 was a bit buzzy at certain rpms too, but not at 4500 as I recall. Did this from 1 mile btw. Does not get worse or better at all.
I find that if I need to run 65 mph, I downshift a gear!
Am I being critical? Or is this a normal function on this V4?
No, it is def not the secondary valves opening. Those are obvious!
    Thanks.

Your bike had Bar end weights I take it? Are they missing or anything? Loose engine mounts? Loose/under torqued bar bolt?

Different grips, or different gloves could help if nothing was loose or amiss.

Buckshot, lead, or steel, in bar ends is an age ole remedy.

They used to make a tuned-mass damper bar end inserts called vibranators. Many peeps on here swore by them. Looks like they have stopped making then, but FAAAST makes an insert to reduce vibrations.

No experience with it, but there is the bar snake (and others) as well.

Well, this is a brand new bike that I picked up with 1 mile on it. It is all stock. I just did an oil change and inspected under the fairings and all over for a good first inspection and all looks in order.
Are you saying that this is a normal thing with this gen? Do they all do it?
    Thx,
    Troy

Anyone with a gen 8 confirm or deny that they have a slight vibration right at 4,500 rpm? Got me a bit worried now. Never had to take a bike to a dealer for warranty work. Yet.

normally, VfR engines will buzz and protest at slower speeds with too much throttle in too high a gear

Mine is a very clear vibration between 4250 and 4750 whether cruising or transiting that range. It really doesn't change or go away with power applications.
I read so much on the net about how smooth this engine is and it is starting to make me wonder. Don't get me wrong, its not the same feel as when the secondary vavles open, just a noticable slight rumble... And always in that range, no matter what gear.
Can't rember if my'06 had a similar issue or not.

possibly a resonant vibration from the fuel tank or exhaust system.

I tried to simulate the problem the other day, did notice some ocasional roughness around 4700, but had to look for it. Mine has 18k on it. More like running at too low of rpm.

Maybe I am looking too hard for problems...I am a bit anal retentive. But it is def there at 4500 in all gears. Not a lugging issue as it happens while just cruising, or accelerating through that rpm.

Not even sure what this even means.
Are you saying you get this vibration and you think it is just a normal thing? I have both an exhaust system and a fuel tank on my Busa and don't get this.

Its a brand new bike. You have a warranty for a reason. Take it back and have a technician look at it and have him explain this vibration to you. You have already paid for this service when you bought the bike. Take every advantage you can of warranty opportunities. You should not second guess this option.

Yea, looks like that may just happen. Like I mentioned, I have never had to resort to warranty work on a new bike. Cars, sure, but this will be the first bike I have taken in.
I was just hoping to get confirmation either way from this community before I waste at least 1 full day with a dealer.

The thing is with warranties. If you discover and issue and try to fix it, and fail to do so, They can void the warranty on that particular issue if they determine you tried to work on it. Within reason of course. You find a loose screw and you should be expected to fix that yourself without hampering warranty. (many people think I have a loose screw) But anything deeper that requires you to dig into the machine to any degree, guarantee they ill void the warranty. Like I said, the warranty is part of the purchase price. Make use of it.

If you have medical insurance to pay for prescription drugs, would you not make the insurance company pay for it? Warranty issues are similar. Think of you warranty as an insurance policy on the good operation of your bike for a fixed time period.

Probkem is that I will waste at least a full day, if not more dickin with them. Much easier to find an easy fix. In the US, dealers are pretty lenient. Unless u really jack something up, they will not void anything. Not like the net leads you to believe! I have plenty of experience with dealers and warranty work on cars. Have a couple friends that own or are GMs of dealerships too. Just never have taken a bike in!
I did go for a short ride today. Vibration is still there, but hardly noticable untill gear 4+. Might just ride a while and see if it goes away, or I can live with it.
I was more interested to know if everyone had this issue and hoping it was an inherent vfr engine thing. I know what the dealer will say. "That is absolutely normal."

Only done around 600kms on mine (from new) and I find that at around the 4.5k rev range is where at commuting speeds it feels good for gear change. Our speed limit of 60kmh in 4th gear seems a little to revvy for 3rd and a little bogged down for 4th and in this spot I do get a bit more vibration. I don't think its a issue just that rev range produces a different harmonic ... I tend to leave it in third and put up with it?
