Hey, picked up a 2014 CBR600RR, but cannot say I'm particularly pleased. At highway cruising speed, it is revving around 5800 rpm in 6th gear, meaning that all the power is up in the 8000 rpm range and higher. This makes for a loud, buzzy ride, which seems awfully unnecessary given the smoothness of my VFR1200. I like to work on aggressive cornering, which is why I opted to pick up the CBR, but I can't say that there's been an improvement in the "cornering experience" thus far, and I'm not sure how much benefit there will be for me as an ordinary rider.
This experience really drives home the versatility of the VFR as a sport bike and a sport tourer...there's really nothing out there like it, and my ride on the CBR really confirmed it. On the ride home down the 401 from my ride routine, about 35 minutes into the run, I started wanting to be finished with the ride....the buzz, the noise, the high revs, and the high footpegs all contributed to my riding fatigue at that point (this was my second ride of the day, mind you). I never get that same antsy feeling on the VFR...never! Once I left the freeway, I was fine, but, overall, I see no benefit to owning the CBR if I have the VFR. I suspect it's a different story on the racetrack, but for me....

Funny thing...bought my first sport bike in 2008, which was an '08 VFR 800. The sales guy raced CBR's, but he told me on my way out that the VFR really is the best bike that Honda makes for riding....and he was totally right. I had nothing to compare it to at the time (except for my old Sportster), but now it all makes sense.

It's obvious there was ever only one outcome to this story.
The VFR800 was never a sportsbike, it's a sports tourer, a very different thing.
The CBR600RR is a true sports bike only designed for one thing, to be dominant at the track.
It's like buying a cruiser and taking it to the track, then complaining it doesn't suit.
But I agree, it's hard to replace the VFR.

Right. Dealers have tried to steer people toward more road-oriented bikes for quite awhile, but the riders are so bent on this "race" thing.
For me, it was something I knew, but didn't really understand until I rode it.

You could also have fun with one on a tight twisty mountain road.
Just remember, what Frank Zappa said.

A mountain is something you don't wanna fuck with, you don't wanna fuck with, don't fuck around! ;)

Frank Zappa said that? What was the context? All of these years cussing the words "don't fuck around" and I didn't have a CLUE where it came from!! Man oh man, I'm a victim of popular culture....

I had an 07 CBR600RR. Sold it and bought a 599. Re-jetted the 599, after a MIVV muffler. Runs so well, l went 2 teeth smaller on the rear sprocket. ("Geared taller"). Put an Ohlins rear shock on it. Now it rides as nice as it runs. Almost as comfy as the VFR.

My first 6 bikes were all super sport bikes. Recently switch to a 2000 Honda VFR800. Absolutely love the bike. Best street bike I've ever owned. Should have gotten one sooner. The vfr is equally capable of everything I need for the street. Not the fastest straight line bike ive ever had but its plenty of power for the street. In the corners it is extremely capable too. And it does all that while keeping you very comfortable. Love it.

The only sport moto I've ridden comparable to the VFR was my 2000 CBR600F4.
I now refer to it as my MiniViffer. If I were to have a 2nd street moto, I'd snag another one of those.
But the VFR has it all IMO...and it's fun to read others' accounts of their VFR love. Thank you for sharing!

Welcome to sport bikes...they aren't pleasant to ride in normal circumstances. The 600 most definitely handles better but you gotta push it hard. Good luck

    Sorry guys.....

The 07+ CBR600RR is the bike ever made. <- There is a period right there.

I also think that the 07 was an awesome bike.. Had one for 4 years, awesome brakes, handling, engine with no flat spots (or crappy VTEC) & a 15000 red line. Toured europe on it, commuted into London on a daily basis (20miles each way) & it did everything fantastically. Its fuel economy on full banzai mode gave me the worst tank I've ever had on any bike - 90 miles = 17 litres, all going into London (lol), but on a good trip I could get over 200m with no problem.

The VFR isn't in the same league except for the ability to cross continents.
I may end up with another (not at the moment though I've been banned from any more bikes - LOL)

Wasn't clear on the comment...is that all years since 2007?
Btw, I'm adjusting nicely to the CBR. The pegs are a bit high, but I'm thinking that it keeps my body mass more centralized for better handling . I thought I was going to have to take it easy at this point in riding the bike, but after the first 40 miles, I'm already outriding myself on the VFR...cornering is just so easy, leaning is easier, and adjusting my line in a turn is easier. It also seems very precise....it's as if I look around the curve a certain way, the bike goes that way. It's turning out very well.

Remember they are designed to be revved so use the full range they don't like being in top gear at low revs, so don't expect them to react the same way as the viffer and pull. Love my fv (f3 97) for exactly the same reason look at the bend and she goes.

Pretty much - but the 2007/08 were the best - they got fatter after that.

They are a finely honed tool, perfectly happy on the track driven by pros & perfectly happy being ridden on road by idiots...(not calling the op an idiot)..

It has the ability to flatter any rider without the rip your head off style of the 1000 cc bikes. If your body shape allows you to ride it then there are few better bikes out there.
