Stator cover oil leak.

I replaced the stator and rectifier last year and over time, the stator cover developed a leak.
Since there is an OEM gasket there, common sense dictates that I should replace it with another one but wondering if I can use silicone instead?
Has anyone used silicone instead before? Any pros or cons about using OEM gasket or silicone?

 

if the gasket is not missing pieces, you can try a fix with that +sillycone or other sealers.

you'll need to inspect closely for any nicks, dents, or deep scratches on the cover and its mating surface on the block.

i had a slow stator cover oil leak on one of my '86 700's that eventually caused the radiator hose running under it to deteriorate to the point of failure and sudden water loss....

 

Permatex, Honda Bond, all work well. I had replaced my stator and somehow the gasket got tweaked and oil started leaking. Not wanting to wait for another gasket to arrive, used some Honda Bond and all was good!

 

Exactly what I'm trying to avoid.
