Be careful on the purchase of an out of state bike. I wanted one in Wisconsin and they wanted sales tax for the state there as well as I would have had to pay sales tax on the bike in Utah. The 6,500 dollar bike would have cost into the $9000. mark with sales tax (both States, shipping and registration in Utah.) Plus one dealer would not let me buy the bike even with Honda Financing unless I took possession in person. Meaning a plane ticket of $800 round trip, Lodging for at least a day and food. Assholes. Just buy the Fantastic Metalic red 1200! :) The Blue sucks IMO, don't listen to gatorgregg!;-) If it is a VFR it needs to be Red or Red, White and Blue or Pearl essence white. :)

Stealer double dippers! Can they legally charge you tax in both states?

Got mine out of state but in lieu of not taking delivery in the flesh i would demand clear pics and full disclosure of any damage by the sales guy. They WILL LIE to you (especially if you're miles away) to make the sale and leave necessary paperwork undone once they get their commission!:Smash:

The VFR12 DCT is probably the fastest autobike besides a Lightning LS-218!

Well, The state you reside in and register it in Yes, Different states have different tax laws obviously. In my case on dealer claimed that I had to be onsite to sign for the reason of taking the bike in the condition that I see it in. But also said that Honda financing would not allow a sale without the purchaser on site to sign. That was bullshit, After going against another dealer in Wisconsin, they had a different answer. The first would not budge even thought it was threw Hondas own finance corp and not a fraudulent out of state bank or person. Bullshit in both cases and Wisconsin tax, shipping (one would one would not) Hondas own policies etc. You mention paperwork, well in Hondas case you are apporoved on the bike and the dealer so they get the paperwork assigned to the dealer and they are responsible after approval. I only when threw them because I did not think that an out of state dealer would take or be hesitant and like you said have issues with the paperwork. I finally found my bike at my dealer and used cycletraders prices on the out of state dealers to make a deal that they still wanted way to close to the original retail price. They gave in with my argument of too many at to low of a price. Why keep it on the floor and give me invoice cost.

That's a tough call for me. Does one or the other feel more comfortable to you?
Do you plan on keeping it a long time or selling in a couple years?
Are you buying a lot of aftermarket stuff?
    Did you price insurance?

All of those things could make a difference. In the end I'd say go for the one that stirs your soul. If you don't feel it from neck to nuts, it's the wrong bike.

Just an update on this thread. I saw a 6th gen 2007 for sale nearby and picked her up without missing a beat. Only 15k miles, for $4k. Bike is in great condition w/ Heli bars and stock exhaust with baffles removed (prev owner was an engineer and tig welded everything back together).

That's cool. Quite a bit different than the original question.
