I know that different riding styles and 2 up riding make a difference, but in general for average riding does everyone keep both the front and back at?

For me it depends on where I'm riding. If I'm riding down in Arkansas, or other places with
twisty roads, I'll lower the pressure to around 35 psi. If I'm looking at running an interstate
I'll put the pressure at the max on the sidewall, usually 42 psi.

On Edit, this is a 1999 VFR, not a new one. I wouldn't think there would be much difference.

36 psi front, 42 psi back, just like the sticker says.

Not even for a track bike...invert them and you’d be closer.

Long story short, 5 Gen, 6 Gen, 8 Gen, etc. all use the same principle, recommended pressures for standard use, your preferred pressure for how you like the tires to feel and perform. There are limits for both low and high tires pressures. Too low and your tires will overheat and wear prematurely, too high and they won’t reach optimum temperature giving less performance and possibly wear unevenly. Of course how much “extra” weight you carry can change the pressures you should use.

That be why you struggle to go round corners or it feels crap. 36/42 as per the book.

Thanks fink, I was just kidding. I am usually 99% sarcastic. I have 36 up front and 41 in back. Not 42 because I like to be different and a cog in the machine. I hate the tires I have and would like to have a failure so I can put on the EVOS, but I cannot justify doing so until these tires or tyres go bad. With 2,000 miles I am seeing cupping or waffling on the front already starting to happen. I though I saw a bulge in the middle of the front tire, suspect I will look again but without glasses up close I may just be seeing a cupping on the right side. Generally a bulge will happen on the side wall not center on the radial. Time to drink some beer, put in on the center stand and try to rock it up so the front wheel can be rotated with ease. P.S. I never said I struggled in any turn or feels like crap. Dunlops Hate me and I hate them! I will never put another set on the bike!;-)

For all, I was just fishing to see if you put any different pressure in the tires of the 14' with the weight and usage! I am generally a commuter and a weekend warrior in the mountain's next to my home in Utah (Wasatch and Uinta mountain's 15mins away). I didn't mean to put me into a "Do you actually ride like you have said for 30 yrs?" opinion from all of you). I was just being funny! I do now wonder how the bike would ride with those pressures? Shit, I am trying to kill these dunlops that I have so maybe I will go with those settings!;-)

Dude! Just change them and get on with riding on a good set of tires. I’ve taken tires off that had plenty of miles left on them and put some better ones on. Life’s too short to be riding on crappy tires! I usually “donate” the take offs to riders who are on the tightest budget, sometimes I’ll even install the tires for them. All it takes is a 6 pack of IPA, and they can even share a few with me.

Having changed quite a few sets of tires, I will say the ones that have giving me the most grief putting them on and balancing have been Dunlops. Bridgestone would be second but Michelin and Pirelli have been the best that I’ve had to deal with. Easy mounting and sometimes no weight needed for balancing!

I know hence my tongue in cheek reply.:)

Why don't you start a new post with pictures of your tyres showing us what you are talking about.

I used to run 35 in front and 42 in rear when i remembered to check it. I just found my BMW had 10 in front the other day :) I knew it felt weird, I think the rear was similar. When I moved I didn't bring any tools so I have to borrow stuff to do normal maintenance things now so I neglect them.

I'm sort of in the same boat with my 15, Bubba. The stock tires are ok, but nothing I really have a ton of confidence in. I'll run 36/42 when I know I'll be more on the highway. Out for a backroad ride, it's more 34/40. Though I think either way, come spring time next year I'll put a new set on.

Think I'm going with M7 RRs for my next set. From everything I can read, it seems they notch in between sport touring rubber and hypersport tires. More or less a good street/sport all rounder. I'm not a super aggressive street rider, but I want something I have confidence in if I blow a corner and have to look/lean it out. Mileage is not my primary concern either. If I get 5 - 6k out of them, then I'm happy.

Why does everyone seem to feel they have to live with bad tires?! You have to get new ones eventually, why wait and live with a poorly handling bike? Replace them now and you'll get to enjoy your bike for that much longer. Just like suspension mods, new and better quality rubber changes the riding experience for the better. If you want something to give you better confidence, go out and get them...NOW! Hell, most of the tire makers have had rebates for the past month, what better time to grab some new shoes, than when they're giving you money back or money off the price.

It's like living with a headache and complaining about it, when all you have to do is take some Aspirin or Ibuprofen...

I should but I am feeling worn out and lazy. I don't want to start whining about how I feel physically. So maybe tomorrow will be picture day!

Didn't say they were bad tires, just that I don't have the confidence in them to go balls out. I'm commuting about 100 miles a day a couple times a week, for another month or so. Once we're moved and I'm not commuting on the highway so much, sportier tires would make sense.

Don't need the judgmental mini rant either. Unless you want to shell out the $$$ for a new set for me.

Give me a six pack of IPA and I won't give a shit what I am riding on.

I try to keep mine according to Honda's recommendation 36/42 I think. But have to admit, I don't check them nearly as often as I should. definately checked prior to any long trip though.

My front tire has cupped on each and every tire I have put on there. I think I have had 7 or 8 sets of tires now. I haven't found a solution to that. The cupping does not seem to affect the style of riding I do so I am not concerned about it.
