I have a dead display on my 2000 VFR800, anyone have a similar problem? Can it be tested? Does anyone have a set of gauges lying around? Damaged set maybe? Thanks for your help.

Hey.. may be you already solved this one..

    The thing is:
Is the display completely blank?.. it happened suddenly? if this is the case, probably you have a electric problem.. fuse or some disconnected thing or broken cable somewhere.

My experience was that I brought a 1998 VFR with the display working but very degradded almost no contrast, difficult to read and a big stain all over the screen

MY BEST SOLUTION AND CHEAP.. Find some complete gauges used in EBAY and replace the Display (ONLY THE CRYSTAL) if you replace the complete display module you'll transport the milleage of the used dash with it..

I did it and was good!!.. most of the time these used gauges in EBAY are WORKING FINE.

    GOOD LUCK!

I wonder if he ever got this fixed?

I'm still chasing this same issue. Replacing the screen makes sense, but as it happened so suddenly, I think the cause is something electrical. I wonder if a voltage spike from a bad R/R could fry the screen?

I guess what I really want to know is,

Anyone ever have this problem and fix it without replacing a screen?

    *****UPDATE*****

Alright everyone, so I've been through trial and error and have gotten to the bottom of this.

Quick recap. I had the same issue as this person. No LCD. All other dash functions working. Also had a suspicion of a bad R/R.

So. I ordered a roadstercycle R/R and installed it. Still no LCD.

I have multiple 5th gens so I began switching around dash parts.

First I took off a working LCD screen and installed it into the bad problem dash. Re connected everything, and still no dice. At this point, I figure still could be fried or broken circuit.

Next I put the suspect LCD on to the working green circuit board and wallah, all display functions work! This tells me the green circuit board the LCD mounts too is fried.

Finally as a final check, I put the good working dash LCD on to the suspect green circuit board, and ... nothing.. So it's confirmed. The bad R/R fried the green circuit board, this is what happens to our blank LCD's unless you have a corroded PCB.

Now.... I need someone's help to get me a spare dash circuit board the LCD mounts too.

Hope this helps those in the future.
