Fuel line Quick Disconnect

    Has anyone installed quick disconnects on their 5th gen?If so...what did you use, what is the inner diameter, how did they hold up?Any other suggestions, please.

    I installed a dry-break quick disconnect fuel fitting on the fuel return line of my 6th gen Pyrofitr.
    It's made by Motion Pro,I got it from Dennis Kirk. My 6th gen. uses the 5/16" fuel fitting.
    I went with the single,it cuts off fuel flow on only one side of the fitting when disconnected.
    The part number for the 5/16" single is 18-0692. It'll cost you $17.99.
    They also offer that fuel fitting in a dual,it cuts off fuel flow on both sides of the fitting when disconnected.
    The part number for the 5/16" dual is 18-0694. That fitting will cost you $28.99.
    I think I installed that fitting in my return fuel line about 5 years ago. It works perfectly fine and I've had no problems at all with it. Removing my gas tank is quick and easy with absolutely minimal gas spillage with the quick disconnect installed.
    Here's a pic with that quick disconnect fuel fitting installed on my bike.
    Red arrow points to the fuel return line on the gas tank. Green arrow points to the quick disconnect fitting.
    Notice that I installed the fitting about 7 inches from the end of the hose where it attaches to the gas tank. That way when you prop the gas tank up you've got easy access to the fitting to disconnect/reconnect it.

    Here's a pic of a spare 5/16" quick disconnect fuel fitting that I've got. This one is actually a dual. I'm using this pic just as a reference for you. If you go with the single quick disconnect fitting,the part you see on the left in this pic is the one you need to attach to the fuel hose that goes to the gas tank. That's the half of the single quick disconnect fitting that blocks the fuel flow.
    And since you did ask for any other suggestions.
    Fer da cripes sakers Pyro,no smoking or open flames when you're working around the gas tank! Things tend to go :kaboom: :lol:

    Dude! This is fantastic I can't believe I didn't think to ask this question after getting a bath in 3+ gallons during my thermostat replacement on my 6th gen. If I have to get back under the tank for any reason, I will be buying these. Bookmarked! THANK YOU!

    No probs Elwray. We have the technology.:biggrin1:

    Just get in there and clamp off the fuel return line with a pair of surgical clamps before you cut it.
    A pair of needle nose vise-grips with a couple of small deep-well sockets on the jaws works just as good too.
    Make sure you put a couple of small pinch clamps on the hoses for the quick disconnect fittings. You don't want any fuel leaks.

    Yes a good idea. Honda is making more use of these on newer models. Makes life and fuel PSI tests easier too, if you have the fittings to tee in.

    Do you know if the 5th gen is the same diameter?I can't seem to find it anywhere.By the way for anyone who hasn't done the fan switch replacement mod......Auto Zone SW425 turns on at 185F. or (for a little more) NAPA SF146 turns on at 195F.....

    Hmm...a closer look and I see that's the fuel return. Ever pinched the fuel return line (even a little) while you're monitoring fuel pressure? It really causes a massive spike. I wonder if that added fitting creates any restriction in flow? If so, your fuel pressure may be higher than spec.

    Great post, searched for two nights trying to find this.

    I'll be ordering 5/8" diameter fuel line quick disconnects. See how it works and I'll report back.

    Once I get it all figured out, I'll report back with sizes for quick disconnect fuel lines that work on the 5th gen.
